CW orders more 'Vampire Diaries'
'Melrose' scores additional five episodes
While not giving "Melrose" a full back nine (which "Vampire Diaries" received), the show still scored an order for five additional segs. C-Dub is still keeping its fingers crossed that the show may see a ratings boost once Heather Locklear shows up next month.
While "Melrose Place" has been a letdown, "Vampire Diaries" has turned into a bona fide hit for the netlet.
In live-plus-same day scores, "Vampire Diaries" is averaging a 1.8 rating/5 share with adults 18-49 and 3.9 million viewers overall. Among females 12-34, the show usually wins or is a contender for the timeslot lead, averaging a 2.8/10.
"Vampire Diaries" now ranks as CW's most-watched series and is the net's No. 2 show with women 18-34, behind only "Gossip Girl."
"Melrose Place," meanwhile, has averaged a 0.9/2 with adults 18-49 and 1.7 million viewers. Show pulls a 1.7/5 with women 18-34.
Both shows, which launched before the season started, also manage to do quite well with DVR playback. "Vampire Diaries" has seen its women 18-34 rating bump up by 40% when DVR numbers are added, while "Melrose Place" increases by 41%.
Kevin Williamson and Julie Plec are behind "Vampire Diaries," which revolves around two vampire brothers -- and rivals -- who battle for the soul of an orphaned high school girl. Nina Dobrev, Steven R. McQueen, Ian Somerhalder, Paul Wesley, Sara Canning, Katerina Graham, Candice Accola, Zach Roerig, Kayla Ewell and Michael Trevino star.
Show is based on the book series by L.J. Smith. Williamson, Plec, Leslie Morgenstein and Bob Levy are the exec producers. Warner Bros. TV and CBS TV Studios produce, while Alloy Entertainment is also attached.
"Melrose Place," based on the 1990s original, comes from CBS TV Studios and exec producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer. Original cast members Laura Leighton and Thomas Calabro star, along with Shaun Sipos, Katie Cassidy, Colin Egglesfield, Stephanie Jacobsen, Michael Rady, Jessica Lucas and Ashlee Simpson-Wentz.
