This album helped in establishing his credentials in the industry as a versatile singer and composer of a very high caliber. This album provided him with an ideal platform to use his wide range of musical styles, which he had imbibed over the last many years.

Shankar was very fortunate to have been born into a family of music lovers. His parents spotted his musical talents quiet early, when he was around 4 years old. By the time he was 6, Shankar was learning to play the Veena under Smt. Lalita Venkatraman. His advanced training in the vocal tradition of Carnatic music began at the age of 10 under the watchful eye of Smt T.R. Balamani, who was responsible for inculcating a strong classical base in him

After the strong grounding he received in Carnatic classical music, he went on to learn the art of singing Bhajans, Abhangs and Bhavgeet from Shri Shrinivas Khale, reputed to be among the finest composers in the Marathi music world. Shankar also had the good fortune to train under Smt. Tara Devi.. He describes this as an enriching period in his life.

Shankar is a qualified software engineer who made a deliberate decision to peruse a career in music, something he has not regretted doing. He began his journey by singing jingles for ad films. His soulful redention of ‘Kuch Khaas Hai’ for Cadbury is something people still remember. Subsequently his voice has been heard in a host of other commercials in various languages.

Close at heels came the launch of the music cassette of Dus – A Tribute to Mukul Anand. Once again appreciation came from around for the 3 music directors of the film viz. Shankar, Loy Mendonsa and Ehsaan Noorani. The three had decided to get together to combine their talents to compose music for films.

Ever since getting together, Shankar, Loy and Ehsaan have been moving from strength to strength with each film they have directed music for DUS, Shool, Dillagi, BhopalExpress ( background score), Rockford, Mission Kashmir, Alavandan (Abhay in Hindi), Dil Chahta Hai, Yeh kya ho raha hai, Ek Aur Ek Gyarah, Armaan, Nayee Padosan, Kuch Na Kaho, Kal Ho Na Ho, Rudraksh, Kyu Ho Gaya Na, Lakshya, Marigold, Phir Milenge, Bunty Aur Bublee, Dil Jo Bhi Kahe, Jhoom Barabar, Don, Kabhi Alvida na kehna, salam e ishq, TAARE ZAMEEN PAR, Rock On, Luck By Chance, kartik calling kartik, my name is khan have been the movies they have composed music for.

Indraani Singh · CEO, NGO Literacy India

Indraani Singh was born in Delhi to a Bengali mother and a Rajput father. Indraani Singh started her career in 1987 with Indian Airlines on the aircraft Boeing 737, thereafter converted in Airbus 320 and became first ever woman to fly this fly-by-wire aircraft in Asia, as a copilot. Airbus 320s was in those days a novel technology in the world.

In 1989 she went to Toulouse, France to train for the A-320 aircraft. She was astonished to find that people in France were surprised to see an Indian woman in aviation, as their perception of Indian women was that of leading conservative and restricted lifestyle.

In 1995 she became the first woman pilot on the wide-bodied Airbus 300 in the world. The Airbus Company covered the profile world-over.To this day, Indraani Singh counts 10000 hours of flight. She is currently flying the Airbus Family, aircrafts Airbus 320, 319 & 321 with AirIndia.

Ustad Amjad Ali Khan · Hindustani Classical Musician (Sarod)

And thus, the world saw the Sarod being given a new and yet timeless interpretation by Amjad Ali Khan. Khan is one of the few maestros who consider his audience to be the soul of his motivation.

As he once said, "There is no essential difference between classical and popular music. Music is music. I want to communicate with the listener who finds Indian classical music remote".He has performed at the WOMAD Festival in Adelaide and New Plymouth, Taranaki in New Zealand, WOMAD Rivermead Festival in UK, Edinburgh Music Festival, World Beat Festival in Brisbane, Summer Arts Festival in Seattle, BBC Proms, International Poets Festival in Rome, Shiraz Festival, UNESCO, Hong Kong Arts Festival, Adelaide Music Festival, 1200 Years celebration of Frankfurt and Schonbrunn in Vienna.

In his case, the term 'beauty of the Ragas' acquires a special meaning as he has to his credit the distinction of having created many new Ragas. It is love for music and his belief in his music that has enabled him to interpret traditional notions of music for a new refreshing way, reiterating the challenge of innovation and yet respecting the timelessness of tradition.

Two books have been written on him. The World of Amjad Ali Khan by UBS Publishers in 1995 and Abba-God’s Greatest Gift To Us by his sons, Amaan and Ayaan published by Roli Books-Lustre Publications in 2002. ‘Coming Masters’ as the New York Times calls them, his two sons, Amaan Ali Khan and Ayaan Ali Khan are well known names in the music scene and are the seventh generation of musicians in the family. Amjad Ali Khan's wife Subhalakshmi Khan has been a great exponent of the Indian classical dance, Bharatnatyam, which, she sacrificed for her family. As a soul, so in his heart, he is a man who has proven his indomitable belief in the integration of two of life's greatest forces, love and music. He is a living example of a man who practices that integration each day of his life, both on stage and off stage.

Shankar Mahadevan · Indian Contemporary Musician

It was with the launch of the now famous Breathless album in 1998, that one could say that Shankar Mahadevan became a household name.

Malini Ramani · Fashion Designer

Whether you are a warrior, a waitress, a willow, a wife or a waif, in Malini Ramani’s clothes, you will be All Woman. Whether you are the gangster’s moll or a glamour doll, the naughty housewife or the obedient mistress, the teenage beauty queen or the geeky pip-squeak, the lusty princess or the charitable socialite, in Malini Ramani’s clothes, you will be All Queen. Whether are tall or thin, buxom or toothsome, black or white or cocoa, in Malini Ramani’s clothes, you will be All Pride.

Though fashion zoomed its way into Malini’s life by sheer accident, it has now become her driving force, her leitmotif, and her anthem. Her constant pursuit for not just excellence in the art and craft of design, but also in her personal evolution in all matters physical and ethereal, has translated directly into the fashion she creates. You will always find tiny facets of her diverse and colorful life coming together to produce a complete collection, with each garment a near transcendental experience for the woman who adorns it.

Since her first collection titled ‘Rockstar Meets Indian Princess’ at the turn of the Millennium in 2000, Malini’s fashion universe has been a harmonious amalgamation of contrasts. In her clothes, there is a constant osmosis between the East and the West, a seamless fusion of effortless chic and high-octane glamour, and a playful juxtaposition of “bling” and elegance.

So whether it’s the Moroccan inspired Kaftans that have been slashed knee high for an LBD effect, or the chicest jumpsuits engraved with Mayan and Aztec swirls and whirls, or the sexiest, figure hugging gowns that sparkle with shine and sequins or the plunging necklines and cinched waists of the prefect tie-dye print cocktail dress, they all seem to work together to form a cohesive collection. Her resort wear collections, a favorite among Bollywood starlets galore, best exemplifies this idea, where her “hippie deluxe” look combines with “aesthetic chic” to leave you looking like the de facto “Indian Love Goddess”.

Malini’s absolute insistence on designing only the clothes that she would wear has always been her “Fashion Mantra”. Her expansive life allows her the luxury of traveling throughout the year, and she borrows something from different cultures that she is inspired by. From Goa to Bali to New York to Dubai, there are legions of Malini Ramani fangirls, mesmerised in their never-ending quest to become the It Girl’s of Global Glamour, season after season.

Fashion for women needs to be feminine and flirty, and with a high dose of audaciousness and aestheticism, Malini Ramani makes it All Powerful. So whether you’re skiing in Gstaad or sunning in St. Barts, attempting to recreate red carpet Nirvana, or just desirous of looking undeniably chic, a Malini Ramani piece is always the perfect fit.

Indraani Singh · CEO, NGO Literacy India

Indraani Singh was born in Delhi to a Bengali mother and a Rajput father. She had a very humble beginning as her father was struggling in his private business and yet he funded her training into becoming a pilot. She has two brothers, and her husband is also a pilot in AirIndia flying A -330, and also has a 18 year old son.

She started her flying as a first officer in Kolkata and saw the nuns working in the slums without the inhibitions of dirt and filth in the surroundings. This somehow moved herand created a firm resolve to do something for the community. Funny as it may sound, she actually had the passion to help the underprovided even as a kid, as she always told her brothers that when she becomes rich she would distribute wealth to the poor. She believes that working in the Social sector has made her a better person and she has come to think about India’s position on the global map and wanting to strive for a better country, to fight poverty and corruption and to educate as many children as possible, since they are the future of India.A lot of her inspiration comes from Swami Vivekanand - preachings.

Indraani Singh Founded Literacy India in 1996 – starting with just five children, now the reach has gone to over ten thousand children and women across three states of India: Haryana, Delhi & West Bengal. LI’s target had initially been the three E `s – Empowerment of women & children through education and vocation;Education of adolescents & women; and Employment: helping the beneficiaries with placements in companies or self-employment.
