Registration open for Certificate of Spiritual Direction Program

Application deadline is Aug. 15.

June 11, 2010

Mobile, Ala – The Spring Hill College theology department is now accepting applications for fall 2010 admission to its Certificate of Spiritual Direction program. The CSD program offers a specialized curriculum designed as a professional preparation for spiritual direction or faith companioning. The program is offered in Mobile and Atlanta. Admission is only open every other year. The deadline for applications is Aug. 15.

While the course of study is rooted in the Catholic spirituality, the program is ecumenical and has included participants from several Christian traditions, both lay and ordained.

The program builds its foundation on the dynamics of the Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola, founder of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), but not in an exclusive way. Ignatian spirituality is both rooted in tradition and open to adaptation. It offers a practical and methodical approach to the rich tradition of spiritual direction. The variety of spirituality courses, which are a part of the CSD program, and the seminar style of study will provide ample scope for engaging a broad range of ancient and contemporary approaches to spiritual direction.

Spring Hill’s theology and ministry programs have been offered in conjunction with dioceses in the Southeast for more than 25 years. This service to the region offers a unique blend of academic challenge and spiritual enrichment, specifically designed for adults seeking to deepen their faith and to explore the great traditions of Christian spirituality.
