Greetings kiddos! It's once again time for our monthly forum breakdown where I bring you all the hip happenings of my beloved basement dwelling brethren. Grab yourself some sugar tang and get comfortable because this month was jam packed with excitement.
First things first, you may recall that last month our buddy lv99ron was dealing with some medical issues. This month I'm happy to report that he's been released from the hospital and on his way to recovery! Yay! More after the break.
We're going to record an episode of Bit Transmission this weekend. I can confirm that we will be talking about Puzzle Quest 2 in some capacity. Also, I fully intend to force a discussion about sprite-based games getting "HD" visual upgrades, which should be no trouble at all. Should be a good show. If there's anything you'd like us to talk about, mention it in the comments below.
Now that I've gotten that out of the way, I also wanted to take this opportunity to remind everyone that we're having a contest around our recently released Bit Transmission Sprite Pack #1. The Sprite Pack contains the sprites used to represent the cast (and some guests) in the header images which accompany each post. We want you to take those sprites and make all manner of new images with them.
To that end, we're giving away surprise bundles 'o fun for the three best (as determined by the cast) submissions you lot can muster. You only have until 11:59 pm on Friday, July 2nd to enter, so hurry! Check out the contest thread in the forums for complete rules and to submit your entries. Good luck!
"How do guys feel about Puzzle Quest 2 being 1200 points? It seems worth it, but this new "norm" they're trying to force seems arbitrary and it pisses me off.
I can't really think of any sprite-b..."more
Welcome kids. Mxyzptlk is busy "acquiring" parts for his scale model Optimus Prime from local lumber yards, so I've been handed the tremendous honor of hosting our forum recap. This month brought us a slew of new badges, mythological beasts, tournaments, and speculation for the future.
"I still don't know how I got that Sackboy badge...I mean I understand HOW you get it but I'm not sure how got it. Perhaps detective work is in order....or perhaps I could shut the hell up and be..."more

This past month, Bro-mania infected the forums, Zodiac Eclipse went mad with power, community members got some props in the Dtoid Comic, a new moderator appears, and other things happened.
What were these mysterious "other things"? Why I thought you'd never ask!

Well, this time last month I honestly didn't expect I'd be making one of these posts. For those of you who still haven't heard, Technophile has parted our fair forums for a new gig and the Jedi Council decreed that continuing on as admin of the Destructoid Forums could be a conflict of interest that would eventually lead to the Dark Side. Faced with this difficult moral dilemma, Techno gazed into the twin suns of his desert homeworld while the music of John Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra crescendoed, and reluctantly headed off on his new adventure. Actually he's still hanging around the Forums as a regular community member, but it sounds way more romantic this way.
For some reason I was picked to replace him. Go figure.

Welcome to the March edition of Forums, we have them. This month isn't going to be about things I've updated or additions to Forum (although there will be a bit) so much as it will be about pointing out some of the amazingly cool stuff the community have been up to over there. Things you might have missed if you haven't visited us, such as the header image.
I also have a request of you. Yes you, the guy or gal that is reading this right now. In the comments, I want you to tell me what you think about the forums and whether you partake in them. Community feedback is very important to me and if it's within my power to make the Forums more enticing, then I need to know how I can do that for you.
So without further ado let's get this party started.

Welcome back to the stage of history. Hamza is terribly silly.
Here is the February edition of Forums, we have them. We did quite a bit of housework this month and I would like to share with you all what we did. It's been a year since we put up the Forums we have currently and it's been pretty good to us so far. It says something about the software when you see a lot of high profile sites using it for their forums as well. Did you also know that the 25th of January was Community Manager day? If you want to get in some late appreciation for our awesome community manager Hamza Aziz, you can do so here [Editor's note. Give Will some love too! -- CTZ].
Let's get on with the recap of what's gone down eh?
Welcome to the January edition of Forums: We have them. If you are reading this it should be the year twenty aught ten. Happy new year Destructoid! I know I could use a break from 2009. It should be an exciting year for games, for the site and for the Forums as well. First off, let's recap what went down last month and give a quick little recap of the last year as a whole. What say you, Destructoid?
"I think people are too lazy to sign up twice on the same website. Maybe there'll be more peeps on forum if they can log in with their C-blog account."more
Welcome to the December edition of Forums, we have them. Otherwise known as "There are far too many games out now" edition. It's now officially the holidays but that hasn't stopped us over in Forum land.
I've got all sorts of things in store for December, some of which I will talk about in this article. I'm also going to recap what has gone down in the Forums in November (but that was so last month, psssh). So hold on tight and grow a beard as we do this thing!
[Forums, we have them is a monthly recap of all that's gone down in the forums the previous month.]
Here we are again for another edition of FWHT. We had a busy month in the Forums. I've added some new Forum sections, we've got new badges (for a current total of 31, that's all of them in the header pic) and I also have access to the wonderfully industrious community at Vbulletin.org, which means I've got new toys to play with. Memes were started and cataloged. It's been a heck of a month!
We've got quite a few people over there in the Forums, it's been so busy! Did you know The Bar thread is over 1000 PAGES now? Yeah, GamesAreArt got the first post of page 1000. It's actually at page 1117 as I write this. I know there is a lot more of you that haven't come over and checked us out. For those of you who haven't been over to the Forums yet, find out what you've been missing after the jump.
"Techno, you are the man, but you missed out on one thing! Kamikaze Slowey, John Bloodspray and myself, and later Jack Shadow, Lyfeforce and Solgrim all started up a new ongoing FNF style meetup ..."more
It's that time again! Welcome to the October edition of Forums: We have them. This month, I've got a brief PAX recap, we did some updates to the Forums to make it mesh with the front page, we got a couple of new badges and finally a pretty important poll I would like you to vote in that will be used to direct some of the design of the forums going forward.
So without further ado, let's hit that jump and talk about some Forums eh?
"Man...everyone wants a moon badge.
Let me fix some of the stuff in the forums and we will see what I can do.
Next badge up though, is for the Cblog Recappers. (OH SNAP I LEAKED IT)"more
Welcome to the next installment of the Forums: We have them article. This month I’m not going to talk about PAX. That’s the hip thing right now and I’m excited, but I figure I’ll save those stories until next month. This month I’m taking a lead from the Weekly Musing and the PAX panel.
I’m going to talk about the community and more specifically the Forum community. I think it's high time I gave the whole lot of you some serious props for being awesome. So let's get to it shall we?
The countdown to PAX begins! It's about one month until Destructoid descends on PAX once again and it should be one hell of a good time. PAX is a big deal for Destructoid and a lot of people are excited, but that is the future. We are here to talk about the past, specifically what happened last month in the forums.
Besides the discussion that takes place every day in The Bar and Pictures thread, last month we had a posting guide, some new badges, a push to get some discussion going in the gaming section and also set some new records.
So let's talk about what happened in the last month on the Forums as we do our last pre-PAX recap. The jump, you must follow me to it!
Here we are, back again to regale you of tales of wonder and astonishment. Tales so frightening they will cause your hair to turn white. Tales so humorous, you literally bust a gut laughing. Tales … OK, I’ll stop.
So what happened in Forum land over the last month? Quite a bit! Why don’t you follow me and we can talk about it?
It’s another month and time for another update on the Forums.
The biggest thing that happened is the creation of a new section of the Forums. Inspired by the mighty Dyson of RetroforceGO! fame, we created the “Trade yo games!” trading section of the Forums. It all started with a thread that Dyson began in the RetroforceGO! forum, titled “RetroforceGO!'s Great Game Trading Thread of Justice!!” and we took that and ran with it.
The section of the forum has a simple setup. You make a thread listing what you are willing to trade then you list what you want and then you wait for the private messages to roll in. It’s been an amazing success as we have had many successful trades and I encourage everyone to check it out if you have anything you are looking for/want to get rid of. Please make sure you read the special rules for the Forum and get your trade on. We also have a thread there for Goozex as well so you can discuss, set up trades and connect in that manner too.
The forums themselves have been humming along quite well. We didn’t set any records this month but usage continues to rise. The gaming discussion forums will be hopping with E3 announcements soon and remember that we also have threads for most popular releases so you can talk about the game, trade tips, do your own reviews and whatever you like. More after the break.
"The book is so worth reading and you feel like a badass when you can read it without having to look up the words in the little dictionary they provide. Also, the movie leaves out the last chapter..."more
That’s a question that gets asked around here quite a bit. The answer to that question is very much YES.
For those of you that are new to Destructoid or maybe haven’t paid attention to the “other side” of the site, allow me to give you a bit of a recent history lesson.
First off, I’m Technophile (or just Will) and I’m the admin/manager of the Destructoid forums. I’ve been here on the site officially since December 2007 and lurked before that. I became admin of the forums in December of 2008. I come from a background of community management in the games industry and I’m a gamer. Enough about me though, let’s get on with the history lesson.
A couple of days ago, we told you how David Jaffe, the designer of the original God of War title, was going nuts over how great God of War III looked. He actually said "HOLY HOLY HOLY F**KING HELL!!!!" We didn't think much about it, honestly. We simply said that "the hype-train pulling into town," and then went about our buisness.
After Jaffe's quote "...looks like a painting come to life" dropped, the folks on NeoGAF began bracing for the worst, as they all knew for sure that sh*t was about ot hit the forum's fan. Forum user EmCeeGramr said it best:
this thread is going to look like a painting: the scream
Oh, how I laughed. Heartily. The NeoGAF guys barely got started, though. After about 100 posts in, David Jaffe pops in to respond to respond to comments on his original post as well as on some personal attacks. His response wasn't very professional, but it was still great.
This one is so good that you'll have to check it out after the jump.
We here at Destructoid are well aware that many of you have been following EA’s FaceBreaker, a game that looks like a fighting game under the guise of the sport of boxing. Some may have found the demo a bit underwhelming, and a few people have criticized the arguably questionable celebrityadditions to the game, which, at the very least, caused me to scratch my head, bemused. Regardless, I’m sure that a good amount of people still are interested in how the finished product turns out.
That’s why we’re proud to present a developer Q&A with the Lead Designer of FaceBreaker, Todd Batty. He’s here to help you understand the process of developing the game, and specifically, he’ll be answering your questions in the Destructoid forums (yes, we have forums!) on anything related to the development of FaceBreaker. He’s also created a community blog here to defend his creation and introduce himself, so please give him a warm welcome to the Destructoid community.
I’ve seen Todd do similar Q&A sessions around the Web, and I can assure you that he’s going to be as candid as he can be in responding to your queries. So don’t hold back -- let him know what you think of the game so far! If you haven’t yet played FaceBreaker, check out the demo, which is available on the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace. FaceBreaker will be out on September 5th for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii.
