Thank you for your interest in Oklahoma City University and our History Department. OCU is an outstanding university where both faculty and staff are committed to the success of our students.
Unlike many larger universities that offer a limited number of history courses constructed around specific time-periods and nations, OCU offers history courses that are relevant to understanding today’s complex world. The diverse background of faculty in the department allows them to offer courses such as the History of Terrorism, the History of the Iraq War, Race in America, U.S. Women’s History, and Native American studies.
In a world of globalizing economic markets and ever-expanding technologies, history provides students with vital research and communication skills. The ability to identify, synthesize, and evaluate diverse information sets historians apart from other disciplines. Our graduates have gone into successful careers in law, business, state and national archives, publishing, museums, and—yes—teaching.
All of us in the History Department are eager to answer any questions you might have about our program. Please feel free to email me at vmccombs@okcu.edu.
If you have plans to come to OCU for a campus visit, let me know, and I will arrange for you to spend time with the professors in our department.
Sincerely,
Virginia McCombs, Ph.D.
Professor and Chair, Department of History
