"The Republican buzzword since WMDs didn't work out." Hilarious. What about "You got your war, I get my health care"?

krackbaby 3 points4 points 4 days ago[-]

As much as I despise bumper stickers, your contribution is actually pretty good.

imadestickers [S] 4 points5 points 4 days ago[-]

Love it! Adding it to the list of possibilities when I run out of these

These stickers are beyond pointless, they're detrimental to effective political dialogue. You;re stickers promote the fantasy that US politics consists of two extreme sides with predictable and predetermined stances on issues, such as "Liberals protest war, conservatives protest healthcare." Have you ever heard of anti war conservatives or libertarians? Or about the legions of pro war Democrats and their liberal constituents? Or how about the ridiculous assertion that conservative thinking is devoid of reason and facts? Have you heard of Edmund Burke, the founding thinker of modern conservationism? But aside from the factual errors your overzealous generalizations contain the issue remains that the tone of all these stickers isn't "My idea is right, and yours is wrong." but "My imagined monolithic political side is the only valuable and morally justified one."

Please, stop reducing political discourse in the US to the level of flippant trolling. You are not doing anybody any favors.

To be fair I liked the one about socialism being used as a buzzword. I would have it read "If you haven't read one socialist essay, then you probably aren't qualified to use the word."

yuubi 0 points1 point 4 days ago[-]

they're detrimental to effective political dialogue

Ideology isn't about obtaining the map that reflects the territory so as to govern best; it's about helping people feel that their side is better than the other (or convincing the undecided that the other side is no-good shits) so as to get a guy from "our" party into office. Never mind how far "our" party is from our actual interests.

cfrey 3 points4 points 4 days ago[-]

"Why do the bosses get 2 parties, and we get none?"

sge_fan 1 point2 points 4 days ago[-]

Because you continue to vote for them?

cfrey 0 points1 point 4 days ago[-]

Not me... I have not voted for any corporate party candidate for 30 years.

hackersword 10 points11 points 4 days ago[-]

So if the republicans are so bad, and you really want the "system" to change ... antagonizing the other side is a meaningful way/goal to do so?

imadestickers [S] 2 points3 points 4 days ago[-]

I saw this on a car and realized that if it is the only voice is the voice is from the right, everyone will believe it. You've seen all the posts on reddit that say "democrats have no spines" right? This is because Democrats largely refuse to antagonize the other side.

In fact, half the reason people on reddit are pissed at Obama is because he won't do anything that antagonizes the right. For example, he hasn't prosecuted Bush's warcrimes. We're all furious at him for it.

Could you please recommend a message that I could put on my next bumper sticker? I'm very open to suggestions!

Matt3k 3 points4 points 4 days ago[-]

"I support reasoned discussion about war and healthcare"

or

"Bush was a bad president, but admittedly, we elected him twice"

Wait, I know!

"Everything I know about politics, I learned from watching 24H news opinion channels"

I dunno, they just don't have the same ring.

I'm only being half snarky, I agree with the message of your stickers, but I am not sure how much they really help. Good luck at improving the world all the same!

Vivioch 0 points1 point 4 days ago[-]

That last one is actually pretty good, but I doubt it would hit home with many people.

pstryder 0 points1 point 4 days ago[-]

I maintain that we never elected Bush. Not even once.

hackersword 3 points4 points 4 days ago[-]

If I saw that on someone's car, I would think "what an ass". If someone see that on your car, they'll probably think the same.

Bumper Stickers == Road Rage

http://www.newsweek.com/blogs/lab-notes/2008/06/16/bumper-stickers-road-rage.html

You are not changing anyone minds with this, you are not making anyone believe anything, you are just being antagonistic.

jaywalkker 5 points6 points 4 days ago[-]

Kind of the flip side of "Show us your papers" or "Where's the birth certificate?"

krackbaby 0 points1 point 4 days ago[-]

So instead of having 5 million ignorant teabaggers, we end up with 10 million ignorant, partisan douchebags, all of which inspire in me an unfulfilled desire to vandalize the property of political evangelists that intrude my otherwise calm, collected thoughts as I make my way slowly through a beautiful city in an equally beautiful, but well-worn sedan. I love myself.

jchapstick 2 points3 points 4 days ago[-]

yeah these are all just mean-spirited, bias-confirming pot-shots. why not just make one that says "you are bad and i am good"? stick to the pyramid, bro. http://i109.photobucket.com/albums/n44/gui110tine/disagreement-hierarchy.jpg

FortHouston 4 points5 points 4 days ago[-]

Thanks for the sticker.

Here is a suggestion for another one that has been seen on Reddit:

Tea Parties are for little girls and their imaginary friends.

IndustrialEngineer 5 points6 points 4 days ago[-]

I thought the left didn't like it when the right uses arguments that paint them as morally superior. Well guess what, that's exactly what most of these bumper stickers do: paint the left as morally superior.

imadestickers [S] 1 point2 points 4 days ago[-]

You probably wouldn't want to request one of these stickers then :)

IndustrialEngineer 4 points5 points 4 days ago[-]

No, even though they're free. Good effort, but you seem to have sunk down to the level of the neocons these are bashing.

imadestickers [S] 2 points3 points 4 days ago[-]

That's exactly what I did.

Also, if you have ideas for the next sticker run, please, please give me your suggestions! If I can put out the same message without sinking, then I'd love to hear it

IndustrialEngineer 8 points9 points 4 days ago[-]

Something like "Corruption is Bipartisan" as a little reminder to people would be pretty awesome.

brandonclyon 0 points1 point 4 days ago[-]

Love it!

FortHouston -3 points-2 points 4 days ago[-]

I love it when folks from the otherside of the aisle think they are so gifted they can tell us what we like or do not like.

IndustrialEngineer 5 points6 points 4 days ago[-]

The "other" side? There are more than two "sides" to politics.

I was just commenting on the fact that, in my experience, many people who would probably identify themselves as being part of the "left" despise it when the "religious right" attempts to take the moral higher ground.

boopboopbedoop 1 point2 points 4 days ago[-]

I'm still waiting for "99% of tea partiers make the other 1% look bad"

ZachRB87 1 point2 points 4 days ago[-]

"Liberals Used To Protest War..."

hermes369 1 point2 points 4 days ago[-]

I always thought, "The Hamartia of Hubris" would make a great bumper sticker, with the flag waving in the background. I realize only a very small percentage of 'liberal elites' would get it...

imadestickers [S] -2 points-1 points 4 days ago[-]

Oh yeah I totally had to look up what hamartia meant, haha. I'm not in the know :(

I once saw an image of Bush on the carrier with "Mission accomplished" on it, and the caption was "Hubristic Arrogance: it means what you think it does". It's along the same lines, but wouldn't fit onto a sticker like your suggestion

Mac0swaney 1 point2 points 4 days ago[-]

The two ideas are not incompatible. The question is the role of the federal government, not compassion.

May I ask which organizations, PACs and parties you're sending my potential address too? I'd rather not be affiliated with, say, the Anarchists Union or the Communist Party of America.

Nice but, I'm not that fond of your stated privacy policy. I really prefer not to have my information shared with any third parties.

imadestickers [S] 0 points1 point 4 days ago* [-]

If it makes you feel better, I don't share any information. I made that privacy statement because of a lawyer buddy was like "You're going to get sued if you send people stuff without having a privacy statement". Hmmm I should revise that before it scares people.

However, if you're not convinced, just put anonymous down and it can't get shared anyway :)

Or, if you're double concerned, simply don't fill it out. I tried to make it as anonymous as possible by prompting people to use anonymous first/last names and email addresses.

All up to you of course :)

52 cents for every tax dollar of mine is going towards war efforts caused by Bush. Only 18 cents for every dollar is going towards Obama's measures.

Regardless, I'm giving away stickers for free knowing that I am supporting healthcare and doing my part to fight against the war machine, and it feels great.

If you like, you can make pro war stickers and give them away. Until then, just downvote this thread and be content knowing you did what you could

Alright, I do see what you're saying, and I agree. It is actually sad that things are so pitted. I feel as though I'm fighting to get back to neutral; a lot of it is seeing a lot of the signs and what not that the right hand extreme[tea party/republican/whatever] are putting up, and these stickers are a reaction.

I do totally agree that citizens/media is very polarizing. I feel as though each side will fight for their cause so long as the other is in power; I didn't understand that until I saw republicans fight against Obama, even though he did a lot of what they wanted (lower taxes, blah blah). Maybe it takes an independent before all walks of life can fight towards a common goal?

Anyway, I hope you have a great day as well. OH! if you have any sticker suggestions that you feel may be better help the country than the ones I posted, please do send me a message with recommendations. I'd love to hear any suggestions you have!

Since it doesn't look like the Tea Party has any official platform, I'm having to go by what I've heard from Texas Tea Party members. Most of them were pro-Afghanistan war, pro-Iraq war, and many of them are calling for the invasion of Iran and North Korea. What say you to this?

forgottenhope 0 points1 point 4 days ago[-]

Obama and binden and their handlers want to invade and start wars with china and russia.

since most americans think kennedy was assassinated you'd think they'd release all of the documents surrounding his death, yet they dont, yet the msm insist that if you think kennedy's death was a conspiracy you are a fool.

the tea party is bigger than one idea, you cant marginalize a group of people that are sick of the government in general to fit your own argument. I bet some of the people in the tea party want to get rid of guns, i bet even some might be hermaphrodite. some might be white, some might be black, are they all white or all black because they are in the tea party.

fakealgore 0 points1 point 4 days ago[-]

Please enlighten us with your information on the Kennedy assassination. Instead of calling us all fools, you should focus on citing reliable and logically coherent sources to prove your point.

You say that members of the Tea Party "are sick of the government in general..." Does that mean that they are anarchists? All political parties have a platform from which they derive their talking points. Why does the Tea Party not have a platform?

EDIT: I suppose it is possible that the Tea Party does have a political platform that I have not found. If you can find one, please provide a link to it. I am very curious.

Tasty_Yams 0 points1 point 4 days ago[-]

OH PLEASE! The tea party is opposed to the war??? That's rich.

Not if Sarah tells them it's, like, y'know kinda kewl.

forgottenhope 1 point2 points 4 days ago[-]

What planet are you on?

Bush should be tried for war crimes and so should obama. This left right shit is stupid. And people like you who think blaming the republicans is going to make a difference.

The republicans answere to the same overloards the democrats do.

I have a sticker idea.

I give away stickers because I cant read.

Obama has increased the deficit more than bush. It most cases doubling what bush did. So yeah, right now you might be paying 52 cent on the dollar to "bushs" blunders, but when it comes time to pay for that and obamas new historic welfare state and new secret military operations, it will dwarf what bush did.

but make a better sticker, that asks where the fuck is bush or obama getting the money from.

thebrightsideoflife -4 points-3 points 4 days ago[-]
