IN Prime Minister Julia Gillard's home state of Victoria, early figures show Labor behind.
With 5.37 per cent of the vote counted, there was a 2.38 per cent swing against Labor on first preferences.
In the marginal regional seat of Corangamite, the result was close with six per cent of the vote counted.
Labor MP Darren Cheeseman had a 0.68 per cent swing against him.
On a two-party preferred count, Liberal party candidate Sarah Henderson was ahead with a 1.60 per cent swing.
In McEwen, with 13.6 per cent of the vote counted, Labor's Rob Mitchell was on 51.52, ahead of the Liberal's Cameron Caine on to 48.48
The Greens were ahead in early counting in the marginal Victorian seat of La Trobe.
The south-east Melbourne mortgage-belt seat is a must-hold for the Coalition.
With about 3000 votes counted, Greens candidate Jim Reiher had a 4.55 per cent swing.
There was a 0.20 per cent swing against Liberal MP Jason Wood, who has twice won the seat and survived a 5.3 per cent swing to Labor in 2007.
On a two-party preferred count, Labor candidate Laura Smyth was ahead with a 1.13 per cent swing.
The Coalition needs 17 Labor seats to win the election by garnering a uniform swing of 2.3 per cent across the country.
But the Government can lose its absolute majority if it loses 13 seats.
