Long Wavelength Satellites to the He-like Ion Resonance Lines in the Laboratory and in the Sun

A. H. GABRIEL & CAROLE JORDAN*

Astrophysics Research Unit, Culham Laboratory, Abingdon, Berkshire.
*Attached from: Department of Astronomy, University College, London.

SATELLITE lines, situated on the long wavelength side of the He-like resonance lines in laboratory plasmas, are classified here as transitions in highly excited Li-like ions. We also show that intense features in the solar X-ray spectrum, of similar appearance, are of different origin, and these are classified as the forbidden ls 2 1 S 0–ls2s 3S1 line of the He-like ion.
