The Huffington Post has an opening for a politics reporter whose immediate task would be to cover the 2010 mid-term elections. The position is based in our fast-paced Washington bureau.

Duties would include reporting and writing well researched, authoritative and provocative articles multiple times daily, filing on multiple platforms, and going beyond the horse-race stories to focus on policy and important themes.

The ideal candidate:

* Has significant experience reporting and writing in a breaking news environment
* Has experience covering Congress and/or political campaigns
* Is extremely knowledgeable about the political landscape
* Has strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple sources and information at once
* Can make solid, quick judgments about such issues as news value and veracity
* Has proven experience spotting key themes and trends
* Is familiar with a broad range of Internet news and media outlets
* Can work flexible hours

Politics Editor

The Politics Editor is responsible for creating, aggregating and editing content for the Politics section of the Huffington Post. The position helps set the overall direction for political coverage as well as the tone of the Politics vertical. Duties include:

*Closely following political news around the web, from major news outlets to obscure blogs and Twitter feeds
*Utilizing an extensive range of editorial and tech tools to make HuffPost's politics coverage as creative, cutting edge, and interactive as possible
*Writing compelling headlines, selecting photos, and otherwise packaging stories
*Creating coverage plans
*Managing a team of interns
*Includes some editing and story assignment responsibilities

The position works closely with the Washington bureau chief and reporters on day-to-day coverage as well as long-term planning and projects. The Political Editor also interacts regularly with other section editors at the Huffington Post to coordinate coverage. The ideal candidate must have an in-depth knowledge of the political landscape, experience covering breaking news events and the ability to multitask and meet tight deadlines. Familiarity with blogs and social networks a must, and familiarity with tools like Photoshop helpful. The candidate must be able to work flexible hours.

Duties:

The Huffington Post is developing its socially networked, participatory news environment and seeks a forward thinking social news intern to help promote this initiative. The main focus of the job will be assisting in organizing, managing, and expanding the HuffPost's network of contributors and user-generated content.

The social news intern will be an important part of the Social News team, HuffPost's portal for reader engagement. Those readers contributing user-generated content are a community of writers, researchers, and multimedia journalists committed to generating ground-level reporting, videos, photography and public interest investigations.
