Tall powerful striker who joined the Academy from Joseph Swan School in Gateshead.

Scored his first goal at reserve team level against Sunderland on 3 April 2006. Made his first team debut, and became United's youngest ever European debutant, in the 1 - 0 UEFA Cup win in Palermo on 2 November 2006.

Andy won the 'Wor Jackie' award from Sport Newcastle in March 2007. Signed new contract with United in April 2007 which keeps him at St. James' Park until 2011.

Made a positive contribution in his seven first team appearances in 2006/07 and also bagged a hat-trick for the Reserves at Middlesbrough, goals which helped him top the Reserve League goalscorers chart with 8 goals.

Scored his first senior goal in the 2 - 0 friendly win over Juventus at St. James' Park on 29 July 2007. Has joined Preston on loan until 1 January 2008. Andy took just 15 minutes of his international debut to register a goal on 11 September 2007 with a close range effort.

Included in England's U19 side for the first time, he scored his first and their second at Meadow Lane, the Young Lions ultimately running out 4-0 friendly winners over Belarus.

Scored his first league goal for Preston on 6 November 2007 v Leicester City during loan spell (Sept - Dec 2007), and ended up making 12 appearances for the Lilywhites.

Amazingly grabbed a second hat-trick in successive seasons at Middlesbrough in the Reserve League upon his return from Preston in January 2008.

Scored his first senior United goal on his full home Premier league debut v West Ham on 10 January 2009.

Signed new 3½ year contract on 9 March 2009.
