‘Twilight’ fans moon over ‘Eclipse’: ‘It was way better than “New Moon” ‘ [updated]

The fans have spoken. Hero Complex contributor Yvonne Villarreal covered the big premiere for “Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” and the reviews from the fans are in. Here’s a snapshot of the fanfare and a taste of what true believers have to say about the film, which opens June 30.  After turning the space outside the Nokia Theatre into a tent city earlier this week, hundreds of screaming “Twilight” fans — many toting posters with messages such as “I want to play ‘Pat the Pattinson’ ” or “My heart goes nutz for Lutz” scrawled in brilliant colors — got their wish at the world premiere Thursday of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse”: photos with Robert Pattinson, a glimpse at Kellan Lutz’s Calvin Klein underwear and, for a few, last-minute tickets to see the film. “It’s still such a struggle in the car on the way here,” ...

Robert Pattinson is breathless

Robert Pattinson has dealt with his fair share of hyperventilating girls since he burst onto the scene as the vampire world’s heartthrob Edward Cullen. But all the screaming girls and posters demanding “Suck my blood, Edward” have made the English actor a wee bit anxious … to the point where he, too, is hyperventilating.  Here’s what he had to say at Thursday’s premiere of “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.” –Yvonne Villarreal RECENT AND RELATED Here’s the scoop: Six new “Twilight: Eclipse” star interviews MINISTRY OF GOSSIP: “Twilight” glows at Young Hollywood Awards “Twilight” the musical? ‘Eclipse’: Back and to the future with the cast

It’s the franchise that has fans everywhere thirsty for any bloody detail. The latest installment, “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” in theaters Wednesday, sees Seattle plagued by an army of newborn vampires controlled by the vengeful Victoria, who is out to destroy Bella Swan, whom she holds responsible for her lover’s death. To safeguard Bella from the oncoming threat, her boyfriend, Edward Cullen, and his family must band together and join forces with their shape-shifting foes, the wolf pack, who are sworn to defend humans from all blood suckers. But it’s not all fang baring and claw clenching; there’s also an explosive love triangle this time around. And lots — lots — of shirtless roaming by the muscled members of the wolf pack. To gear up for the third feature to be adapted from the wildly popular Stephenie Meyer “Twilight” books, ...

Robert Pattinson washes his hair with dirt — because Tom Cruise tells him to

Tom Cruise is bringing the thunder again as super-agent Les Grossman, and he has career advice for Robert Pattinson. ‘Twilight’ wolf-pack actors have advice for Bella: ‘Jacob is someone you can take home to mom’

Our “Twilight” specialist Yvonne Villarreal caught up with the “Twilight” wolf-pack actors who, no surprise, howl in protest when someone suggests that Team Edward is best. Team Edward or Team Jacob? It’s no contest, at least not according to the actors who portray the lupine brethren of Jacob, the werewolf played by beefy heartthrob Taylor Lautner in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” which hits theaters June 30. Chaske Spencer, the 35-year-old actor who plays wolf-pack elder Sam Uley, says brooding vampires — like Robert Pattinson’s forever-conflicted Edward Cullen – pale in comparison to a strapping, loyal forest boy like Jacob. “Have you seen him?” Spencer asked with a chuckle. “He’s got that sex appeal going. He’s got the body. He’s the boy next door. But he can also rip your head off.” Spencer added: “He’s a protector. What more could a girl ask for?” In the third installment of “The Twilight Saga,” the ...

‘Twilight: Eclipse’: Here’s the scoop with six new star interviews

Yvonne Villarreal goes in-depth on “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” in this piece, which is a longer version of her Sunday Calendar story.    The family that slays together, stays together. At least that’s the case for the Cullen brood. In “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” which hits theaters June 30, Seattle is ravaged by a series of killings caused by an army of newborn vampires controlled by revenge-seeking bloodsucker Victoria. To combat the threat against Bella (Kristen Stewart) in this third installment of the franchise, the Cullens must band together and join forces with their sworn enemies, the wolf pack. “The whole family is in a vulnerable position because of the love we have for Bella,” said Elizabeth Reaser, who plays matriarch Esme Cullen. “If she’s not OK, we’re not OK.” In the past, we’ve seen the clan hit baseballs so ...

Ryan Gosling, bloodsucker? ‘American Vampire’ creator Scott Snyder likes the idea

THREE-PAGE PREVIEW BELOW When it was announced in October that Scott Snyder’s new monthly comic book series, “American Vampire” from Vertigo, would feature the contribution of suspense novelist Stephen King, it wasn’t long before the phone started ringing. “We got all these crazy phone calls from movie producers wanting to know when they could see it, who they should cast in it. … It was nuts,” Snyder said. “It only existed as a script then, and DC and Vertigo weren’t showing it. It hasn’t physically existed until now. … Hopefully, people will still be interested.” The comic book’s first story arc, which hit shelves last week, centers on two primary characters in two different eras — aspiring actress Pearl in the 1920s and violent cowboy-turned-vampire Skinner Sweet in the 1880s. So who does Snyder, best known for his short stories, ...

Taylor Lautner on Rob Pattinson: ‘Sadly, we don’t hate each other’

In May, Hero Complex contributor Gina McIntyre traveled north to Vancouver, Canada, to visit the set of “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” and talk to the creative minds behind one of the most anticipated films of 2009. This week, as we count down to the release of the vampy sequel — which is now screening everywhere – McIntyre gives us daily dispatches from her trip. Today’s final post in the series is a Q&A with Jacob Black himself, 17-year-old actor Taylor Lautner.    GM: I understand you did a lot of your own stunts in the film.  T.L.: Yeah, I’m very lucky. I’m thankful that the stunt coordinators have some interest in me and they actually trust me. I got to do all my dirt bike riding. A lot of times I’m just standing on set and I’m looking around going, “What can I do that ...

Robert Pattinson, object of obsession

“TWILIGHT: NEW MOON” COUNTDOWN Yvonne Villarreal is a contributor to Hero Complex who may or may not be obsessed with a certain actor who appears in “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” which opens Friday. She sent in this report on a new documentary that promises “All Areas Accessed.” I’ve been doing my homework with the new breathless documentary “Robsessed.” For instance, I now know that when Robert Pattinson was a child, his sisters dressed him up in girls’ clothes and called him Clare. I also know that Rob is the youngest of three kids, that his father imported vintage cars from the States and that his mum pulled a paycheck as the booker at a model agency. This is important stuff here, revelatory factoids that will help me prepare the all-important small talk when Rob brings me home to meet his parents. ...
