Albert Park College a step closer

A BUILDER has been awarded the contract to build the new Albert Park Secondary College.

Politicians say the announcement shows plans to open the school in 2011 are still on track.

Albert Park state Labor MP Martin Foley announced that Watpac Limited had been awarded the contract to build the new secondary college in Danks St.

“This is an important step forward in the construction of Albert Park’s new secondary college being delivered to our community,” Mr Foley said.

“This new state-of-the-art school will be a fantastic boost for our local families, providing them with more secondary school choices and reflecting values of excellence and achievement.”

Education Minister Bronwyn Pike said the project was an example of the work being undertaken as part of the State Government’s $1.9 billion plan to rebuild, renovate or extend all Victorian Government schools.

The school is expected to house 950 students from years 7 to 12.

The new school was to open in 2009, but contamination on site meant an extensive clean up program had to be implemented.

Construction is now scheduled to begin once the site clean up is complete.
