Mark Zuckerberg is richer than Steve Jobs says Forbes; Stone Temple Pilots’ tour halted; did helmsman sink Titanic?
Facebook Co-Founder Wealthier Than Steve Jobs: Mark Zuckerberg, the co-founder of Facebook, is racing up the Forbes 400 list of the Wealthiest Americans. The Harvard drop-out has passed the Apple co-founder on the 2010 ranking of the wealthiest people in the country. The 26 year old added $4.9 billion to his coffers this year to land at number 35 -seven slots ahead of Jobs with $6.1 billion- with an estimated net worth of $6.9 billion. Zuckerberg is the focus of the coming dramatic film “The Social Network.” On Friday, he will reportedly will donate $100 million to help Newark public schools, and will make the announcement on “The Oprah Winfrey Show.” [Forbes]

Stone Temple Pilots Tour Halted: Stone Temple Pilots have ended their tour, at least for now. The band has rescheduled 12 stops on their reunion tour days after lead singer Scott Weiland’s odd speech at the band’s Houston stop. On Sunday, the vocalist, who has suffered from drug problems, said “The 8th of December will be the time when I stopped doing dope. No, no, no, no. I started drinking again. My brother died, I got divorced [from] my wife, and my whole world basically spun around. And, um, so you know what? I’m going to take care of myself because that’s what I need to take care of. Instead of just having a few shows, I want to have a whole hell of a lot of show,” according to a video posted on the Houston Press blog. The band is expected to return to the road on a rerouted tour on Oct. 8. [Billboard]
Who Sank the Titanic?: Nearly 100 years later, a blunder by a helmsman aboard the Titanic is being blamed for the ship sinking. In an interview, the granddaughter of a second officer who was on board the doomed vessel revealed the helmsman panicked and turned the wheel the wrong way after spotting the iceberg that ultimately sank the ship. The error led to another fatal decision to continue sailing the ship, which may have accelerated Titanic’s sinking. “The nearest ship was four hours away. Had she remained at ‘Stop’, it’s probable that Titanic would have floated until help arrived,” according to Louise Patten. [Daily Telegraph]
Well done Zuck. Now all that remains to be seen is how long until the social networking giant goes public. John, http://www.viewcaster.net
^probably because it’s irrelevant
I find it interesting that no one has said anything about the fact that Titanic went down on our USA income tax day! April 15, 1912..
