More positive comments at the Wall Street Journal

January 27th, 2009 by Kathleen

John Fund did a short piece yesterday about Paul and the Oklahoma 3 for the Wall Street Journal Political Diary. On the dismissal of charges, Fund wrote:

Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson finally decided that his crusade to send three political activists to prison for trying to get an initiative on the state’s ballot is a dead weight around his political ankles. The fact that he pursued the bizarre case with such zealotry will probably be an issue as he plans to run for governor next year.

Fund also commented on the damage caused by the law and the prosecution:

Well, it certainly did a lot of damage. It deprived voters in Oklahoma of their right to decide how large their government should grow. Mr. Jacobs also says the prosecutions against him and his colleagues “sadly had a chilling effect on Oklahomans who want hold their government accountable through the petition process.” Here’s hoping Mr. Edmondson’s misbegotten prosecution isn’t forgotten by the state’s voters next year.
