ACS:Law Email Database Leaked onto The Pirate Bay

Postby SlyckTom » Fri Sep 24, 2010 3:53 pm

There appears to have been a serious data security breach on ACS:Law's website today, as the website's root directory was temporarily exposed for several hours. One of the files may have been a backup file of the website, which possibly included the firm's email correspondence of solicitor Andrew Crossley.

ACS:Law's website was initially brought down a well organized Denial of Service (DoS) attack that also targeted the MPAA, RIAA, BPI, Aiplex, and Davenport Lyons websites. The ISP hosting ACS:Law's website did the smart thing and suspended the account, preventing any further access to the site. However for some reason, the site became responsive again this morning, but not pointing to the typical ACS:Law website. Instead it pointed to ACS:Law's root directory - and possibly a treasure trove of information. How the site became activated is unknown, but could present an cataclysmic data breach, as a torrent file claiming to be the internal email database of ACS:Law and solicitor Andrew Crossley has been posted to The Pirate Bay and on the web.

According to the info file accompanying the torrent, the exposure of the email database is an extension of Operation Payback. The individuals behind the attack, know as "Anonymous", extended their DoS attack after Crossley told the Register, "It was only down for a few hours. I have far more concern over the fact of my train turning up 10 minutes late or having to queue for a coffee than them wasting my time with this sort of rubbish."

The website database file seems to have been snatched when the opportunity presented itself - how this happened is currently unknown. We are currently looking into the validity of this event, and will confirm or deny after our investigation soon.

Edit: We have confirmed that ACS:Law email account has been compromised. The HTML version of the emails covers about a month worth of data. There is a larger file that could contain a larger spread of content - we'll report when we receive further clarification.

Edit: There are several versions of the email database circulating. Andrew Crossley's personal emails cover approximately a month's worth of data, but various other emails (such as the ACS:Law's inbox and other employee accounts) cover much longer periods of time.

During our DDOS attack on AiPlex, a member in the IRC discovered the ACS:Law directory wide open with a .tar file with the emails in them. It has since been uploaded to The Pirate Bay, link is below:

The ISP hosting ACS:Law's website did the smart thing and suspended the account, preventing any further access to the site.

This should have been international headlines "Fake Law website Suspended after Attacks from Anon's For The Fake Law Site Breaking The Law Themselves".

"Following the attack of culture and the internet, the mafiaa has tried since the internet was invented to regulate it citing record losses all the while taking in enormous profits. The fbi has also done the same taking down hundreds & possibly thousands of sites. This is an attack on culture and free speech & the mafiaa nor the fbi or their paid off legal team, politicians, etc own the internet. The people own the internet. The mafiaa is the same organization that launders money and practices loss accounting (see the Delaware loss statement where mafiaa made payments to itself using shell companies in order to show a loss). Anyone who supports mafiaa should be outed public ally for treason like they did in the movie 1984 where the people had to recite what they did and how they are a disgrace to society. Mafiaa & the government would like 1984 to be a reality (also see "They Live" movie) and have been enslaving us. We must not let 1984 become a reality and must fight back!

911 was an inside job!!!! Mafiaa.org hopefully just like blockbuster went bankrupt, you will be next.

wonderful rant. in the future, though, could you maybe save the anti-MPAA rant for one of the hundreds, if not thousands, of threads here that is actually about them? just sayin :P

A little taster from emails read so far:

– ACS:Law and USCG (of Hurt Locker fame) appear to be cooperating
– Crossley boasts that his retained lawyer “literally wrote the SRA rules!”
– Crossley accuses Which? of ‘defamation’ and articles designed to “demean” and “denigrate”
– Crossley gives veiled warnings to Which? that he could sue them for libel
– Internal documents reveal intentions to take down Slyck.com
– Email from ACS:Law client which states the following:

You should have a look at these documents as some of them are about you Slyck...

For any questions:

His address, phone, etc.

For those of you curious about the emails but wanting to get them via usenet, they have been uploaded to a.b.warez by a poster using the name jack@localhost.com(jack). The text file "readme.txt" contains:
These are all of the emails I could find from the ACS:LAW rip.
They are now in .eml format and will open in Thunderbird etc.
Not every acount or folder had content, I recreated the acounts which had content
and also recreated the sub folders in their original order.

To keep this separate from my regular email I installed Thunderbird Portable to a USB thumb drive.
Decompress the RAR set and copy the ThunderbirdPortableACS Folder to a thumb drive or anywhere you want,
open the folder and double clck the ThunderbirdPortable launcher and the program will start.
The ACS-LAW emails are in the Local Folders in the order that they were found.

There is an empty account on ThunderbirdPortable "j@home.com" which is not configured and
there is no password.

If you'd like to upload this file as a torrent and host it on a seedbox to give max availablity for those who
want to read the emails please do so.

Am downloading it as I type here..

For anyone who has downloaded it (not that I have of course! ;)), do a text search for 'slyck'. I believe there's quite a few Slyck references in there, like this one:

Lets talk about it more in person when you are free.

Hi there...

The Slyck crowd are on to you!

They know where you are working...nice picture!

I posted an entirely benign post about you leaving, as agreed. I think they had already found you though.

Anyway, would be good to talk. Simon Gallant has made his application before Master Winegarten for Ministry of Sound last week. I do not know how he faired; not well would be my guess. The forum picked that up aswell.

I will call him tomorrow and let you know.

Keep in touch. I need a bit of help with excel. I need to import the =own names into the Sky spreadsheet for evidenzia to match up wit the =ostcodes. I have a spreadsheet of all postcodes. Also, if I get more =owerful computers could we run google docs system for the 11,000 names =n Evidenzia; Ali was trying to charge me £1.00 per IP address =mported! This guy is nuts. I can afford to build my own database =ow.

T,

Slyck – and to a lesser extent Being Threatened – are annoying me with the rubbish and lies written about us and what we do in general. Please can you prepare a notice to Slyck to pull the page? Or a take down notice to Google or Slyck’s host or whoever? Thank you.

To the best of my knowledge, their mentions of Slyck are not new threats, they are old ones, and no doubt SlyckTom will update as he sees fit, or if there is new information.

Since we are discussing irony.

That guy is trying to charge you an offensively high fee for a crap product and it appears you think he is a dickhead.
This is how the rest of the world views you and your company.

Your thinking now of not paying it and just finding a way to work around him, that is the correct response. Just like it is the correct response when i delete threatening emails from copyright lawyers.

When you go and build your own database i can only hope he threatens legal action for the income he would have gained if not for your lost sale. That would be the cherry on top of the big chocolate irony cake.

Gotta be the biggest breach since MediaDefenders...

That Andrew Crossley, and I've been following the story for what seems like years now, really seems to have finally had what's been coming to him. Check out this, posted to TPB as an example of the kinds of emails contained therein (I'll remove the ex-wives email address):

"andrew.crossley@acs-law.co.uk
xx@xx.net

You are fucking joke. Happy? You? With Kevin the drug addled hermit who has nothing to do with you or his family. You are the saddest person I have ever met.

Now get the fuck away from me forever you complete washed up drug addict loser.

Your email has been marked as blocked sender. No further emails from you will be received by me. Do not ever attempt any form of contact with me again as long as you live.

Fuck off and keep out of my life.

Andrew your ex husband of 14 years. "

Does this prove karma?

For anyone not reading the ACS:Law thread, most of the other articles and comments related to this email database leak are being posted in that thread, for additional reading on this...

Hi netty,
A good place to start, would be this thread on Slyck...

viewtopic.php?f=66&t=44092&start=12650

Read all the information posted in the outlined area at the top of that thread, and you can work your way backward from the current page the thread is on. There is plenty of help and advice there, a lot of good information, and full support from many others in your same predicament.
