Exclusive: Sandra Bullock offered 'Never Forget' at Screen Gems

Categories: Casting, Movie Biz, News

Sandra Bullock has received an offer for the film Never Forget at Screen Gems. The film, according to sources familiar with the project, say it is loosely based on the documentary On Moral Grounds, directed by Robby Kushner, which depicts one woman’s quest to reimburse Holocaust survivors who were swindled out of their heir’s insurance policies by a European insurance company. The studio has been very hush-hush on this project but has confirmed exclusively to EW.com that she’s been offered the role.

The film is one of several movies recently offered Bullock, but she has passed on most of them. Bullock has already said no to starring in New Line’s Our Wild Life, aka Elephant Orphanage, which centers on the life of Dame Daphne Sheldrick, an animal conservationist in Kenya who devoted her life to preventing the extinction of elephants. Julia Roberts had been rumored for the role, too. New Line is now regrouping before reaching out to a new leading lady.

Bullock has also turned down an offer to star in Disney’s The Odd Life of Timothy Green, a film from Peter Hedges (Dan in Real Life) that centers on a family whose lives are touched by an unexpected child.

It’s understandable why the 45-year-old actress may have turned down both Wild Life and Timothy Green. Both parts have inklings of her Oscar-winning role in The Blind Side in them. Wild Life requires her to portray another real-life person, just as she did playing Leigh Anne Tuohy, and Timothy Green centers around a child who changes a family’s life, a la Michael Oher.

Bullock is currently negotiating to co-star opposite Tom Hanks in the adaptation of Jonathan Safran Foer’s 9/11 novel Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close, which Stephen Daldry is planning to direct for Warner Bros. and Paramount Pictures. The post 9/11 drama centers on a young boy who finds a key that belonged to his late father who died in the World Trade Center attacks. Sources believe it will be the actress’s next project.

Stephen Lang joins Fox's 'Terra Nova'

Stephen-LangImage Credit: Mark Von Holden/Getty ImagesUPDATED 9/17 One of Hollywood’s preeminent baddies is joining Fox’s time travel drama Terra Nova.  EW has confirmed that Stephen Lang — last seen shooting up the blue natives in Avatar — will play the merciless leader of a prehistoric settlement in the drama that’ll bow next year. The project has already lured Jason O’Mara (Life on Mars) to play Jim Shannon, whose family is part of a group of settlers who travel back in time.

This summer, Fox announced that it’ll preview Terra Nova for one night in May 2011, but then will bow the drama officially in the fall of 2011. Fox decided to give the drama the same treatment it gave Glee, which was previewed last year after a May episode of American Idol and subsequently rolled out officially in the fall of 2009. The experiment worked: Buzz for the musical dramedy built over the summer and the show had an auspicious beginning.

Production on Terra Nova, which has yet to complete the casting process, isn’t expected to begin until October in Australia.

Tim Allen: Back on TV in Fall 2011?

Tim-AllenImage Credit: FilmMagic Inc/FilmMagic.comThe fall season doesn’t officially begin until Sept. 20, but the broadcast networks have already kicked off development for the following September. A number of hot projects have hit the marketplace — a crime thriller and an Alcatraz drama from uber-producer J.J. Abrams, just to name two — but those scripts don’t seem nearly as provocative as the possibility of a (major?) comeback by a former ABC star. EW has learned from multiple sources that Tim Allen (Home Improvement) is looking to stage a return to prime time — as long as it involves the right project. “It will be huge,” predicts one manager of Allen’s comeback — if and when it happens. Another source indicated that the actor is taking “a few select meetings” with writer-producers, one of whom may include Greg Daniels (Parks & Recreation, The Office). Is there a chance that Allen could even join the staff of Dunder-Mifflin? (Read full post)

dwts-new-castImage Credit: Barry King/WireImage.com; Chris Hatcher/PR Photos; Marion Curtis/Startraksphoto.com; Bob Charlotte/PR Photos (2)The 12 participants for the next edition of ABC’s Dancing With the Stars were announced Monday during a live teleconference in Hollywood. They are:

Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino, from MTV’s Jersey Shore

David Hasselhoff, best known for his roles on Baywatch, Knight Rider, and America’s Got Talent

Rick Fox, retired pro basketball player from the Los Angeles Lakers. “They had concerns about my height,” Fox told EW after the press conference. “Jason Taylor broke a little bit of the mold, which made it possible for me. There aren’t a ton of tall female dancers, so it puts a strain on those women. But I’ve shaken a lot of the fears of whether my body could actually do some of the things I’ve seen on this show.”

Bristol Palin, daughter of ex-Alaska governor Sarah Palin. For more on her comments after the show, click here.

Kurt Warner, retired NFL quarterback

Florence Henderson, best known for her role TV’s long-running comedy The Brady Bunch

Audrina Patridge, from MTV’s The Hills. “When they asked me, I was like, `Yes, I want to do it!’  We get to learn from professionals, very talented dancers. But it is intimidating because it’s live, and, I mean, there are so many different dances to learn. I’ve never done this before!”

Michael Bolton, singer-songwriter

Brandy Norwood, singer-songwriter and star of the old UPN comedy Moesha

Margaret Cho, comedienne and current co-star of Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva. “I’m so out of my element. Everybody is so classy,” she told EW. “If this was Dancing with the Whores, I would do better. But it’s not, so we’ll see.”

'Footloose' exclusive: Andie MacDowell joins cast

Categories: Casting, Movie Biz, News

Dennis Quaid has already landed the role of the righteous, rock-music hating reverend in the upcoming Footloose remake. Now, Andie MacDowell has signed on to play his patient wife Vi in writer-director Craig Brewer’s (Hustle and Flow) redo of the 1984 movie about a small town that bans dancing. MacDowell and Quaid have played husband and wife once before, when they co-starred in HBO’s Emmy-nominated 2001 movie Dinner with Friends. The acting vets should be a welcome addition to a cast that boasts relative newbies Kenny Wormald (Center Stage: Turn it Up) and Julianne Hough (Dancing with the Stars) as the teen leads.

Production on the remake is set to begin shortly, with a release date already scheduled for next April.

MacDowell is currently shooting the new Fox TV series Lone Star opposite Jon Voight, and her indie film Daydream Nation – in which she stars opposite Kat Dennings and Josh Lucas — will screen at the Toronto Film Festival.
