Research Colloquium for Junior Investigators

                APA's Research Colloquium for Junior Investigators
                            May 15, 2011 - Honolulu, HI

Presented by the American Psychiatric Association in conjunction with a research training advisory committee.  The purpose of the colloquium is to provide guidance, mentorship and encouragement to young investigators in the early phases of their training.  Junior investigators will have an opportunity to obtain feedback about their past, present, and future research from mentors who are tops in their field in a small group setting as well as general information about career development and grantsmanship.  Candidates whose research interests are similar to those listed below are also encouraged to apply.  This year, an all-day workshop for junior psychiatric investigators will focus on these three areas:

*Mood and Anxiety Disorders from Neurobiology to Epidemiology and Treatment

Who is eligible: Psychiatrists who are senior residents, fellows, or junior faculty, and who have an interest and potential in developing research careers in the areas listed above.  Participants should hold a medical degree or be a member of the APA; or be eligible to become members of the APA.  Those with individual federal research awards (e.g., R-01 Awards) are not eligible.

Stipend: A $1,000 stipend will be provided to partially defray travel expenses

Deadline: Applications must be postmarked by November 15, 2010

Application Process: Nominees will be required to submit the following:

A completed application form and nominee's CV

A two-page statement by the nominee describing current and proposed research projects.

A 500 word abstract by the nominee of a study in progress or completed.  If accepted to attend the colloquium, this abstract should be used for the poster session.
 
A 250 word statement by the nominee describing how attendance at the colloquium will further his/her career goals. If accepted, participants will be asked to give an oral and poster presentation of their study. 

Sponsor's letter of recommendation, from the nominee's research mentor or other faculty member, describing the nominee's potential as a researcher and his/her potential to benefit from the colloquium.  

Applicants who have participated in Committee on Research Training colloquia in past years should provide a fifty word statement explaining how attending this year’s colloquium will further enhance the candidate’s career development.
