there was a quote from cay a couple weeks ago that all characters would have access to 41-point talents... but since they wouldn't be able to level up past 60, they'd have to spec 10/41/0 or something.

With purple gear straight grinding will most likely yield far better experience than any intricate plan related to current quests in the game.

Q u o t e:
Things that will require the expansion (from what I've read, I could be mistaken about some):
- Leveling past 60
- Utilizing talents past 31
- Entering Outlands or some of the new instances in Azeroth designed for post level 60.
- I have heard that you will be unable to enter the Draenei/Blood Elf starting areas without the expansion. No clue how this will work unless they are instanced somehow.
- Playing Draenei and Blood Elf races (and therefore, playing Horde Paladins or Alliance Shaman).
- Training the Jewelcrafting profession.

Things that will not require the expansion:
- Equiping socketed equipment, crafting socketed equipment, equiping jewels.
- Equiping BoE items that are within your level range that may only drop in Expansion-only areas.
- New honor system.
- Arena system.
- Any gameplay or balance changes that affect the game mechanics as a whole (i.e. UI enhancements or changes that affect the original talent trees)

Things I'm not sure of:
- New battlegrounds.
- New spells that would have early ranks trainable before 61.

We are planning to allow all players to access the new talents, although those who do not own the expansion will of course not have the additional points gained from leveling to 70.

There are no plans to restrict items based on where they are obtained, meaning that socketed or Outland-obtained items can be equipped by anyone if purchased or given. While the Jewelcrafting profession will only be available to expansion owners, the items they create will not be.

The current Arenas being planned are all placed in Outland, and since they are also planned to require level 70 for the ranked matches, the expansion will obviously be required to participate. There is always the possibility that we will expand the Arena system to Azeroth in the future.

You were not brought upon this world to "get it".

In other words, buy the expansion or you will not have fun anymore.

Isn't that the general credo of all gaming companies?

I don't understand people like this that are against buying the expansion.
Blizzard gives you a new expansion and you want to find some reason to not buy it, yet still enjoy all the new content that comes with it?
I don't understand the purpose or reasoning behind your argument at all...

Q u o t e:
We aren't currently planning on changing the way experience is obtained in the expansion. If you wanted you could gain some experience up to level 70 in Azeroth, although I'm not sure if getting anywhere past the mid-60s would even be feasible.

You will only be able to level to 70 if you own the expansion.

If you are having fun before the expansion comes out there is no reason you shouldn't still have fun afterwords without it. If you aren't then you are prescribing to a very capitalistic philosophy that gratification can only be achieved relative to what you have and others don't (Or the other way around). Perhaps it is you who are the greedy one and Blizzard the one who wishes to give you new content to enjoy for a little bread and water every month.

Why not?

At 60th, things that are 49th are still green to us. If you're not planning on changing anything, that means that at 70th, things that are 59 will still be green to us. So doesn't that mean we could, in theory, hit 70th by doing nothing other than Scholomance runs?

Since mobs stay green for up to 12 levels below you, it should still be possible to still gain exp from lvl 57-58 mobs at lvl 69 pushing to lvl 70.

Edit: the guy above me, beat me to it...

Oh Oh, 5-man raid runs of Zul'Gurub, people are doing that now so that might become a bi-weekly trend.

I think by feasible, Drysc really meant 'mildly fun.' Would you want to hit 60 by doing nothing but Maraudon runs?

So lemme get this straight. If you don't buy the expansion, you could get to level 70 with alot of effort which is pointless as far as you are concerned.

Unfortunately what we have here is, everyone who buys the expansion will get to 70 and almost certainly dominate in terms of PVP. Don't get me wrong, I'll be buying the expansion, but what about all the poor suckers that don't want to buy the expansion etc. Seems kind of unfair that on a PvP realm, some poor bum mid 60s (cos he can't really level higher) is gonna be owned by lvl 70s because they can.... how do you intend on addressing a potentially harmful issue which in my view, would cause these people to just leave the game in general..

No, Drysc clearly said that you have to have the expansion to level above 60. He just also said that you could level without going to Outland if you wanted, it would just be a slow and painful experience. You would still need the expansion to do this.
