Participants will work in four teams of three to develop and publish a game on the Apple App Store for iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad.

Each team will have an industry mentor who will set the games development brief, assess development progress and provide final sign-off on the game.

The finished game will be submitted to Apple for download on the App Store, and reviewed by a games industry journalist.


Week One: Intensive Training

  • iPhone SDK (programmers only)
  • Creating art assets (art candidates only)
  • Games design (all candidates)
  • Handling client briefs (all candidates)
  • Meet your mentor, receive game brief

Week Two & Three: Mentored Development

  • Candidates work in development teams on their projects; equipment and software will be provided.
  • Mentors visit teams,providing feedback and support to ensure the team is meeting the brief and able to complete the game development.

Week Four: Complete Development & Submit Game

  • Teams complete the game development process and the final product is handed to the industry mentor for sign-off.
  • The completed game is reviewed by a games journalist
  • The completed games are submitted to Apple for App Store approval (provided they are signed-off by the mentor)
  • A review of the Camp with all the teams and mentors will take place on the final day along with certificate awards.


Guy Wilday

Former Studio Director at SEGA Racing Studio (Sega Rally) and Head of Studio at Codemasters (Colin McRae Rally), Guy will be leading the course with over 16 years experience in the games industry.

How to Apply

In order to be accepted onto Gamer Camp candidates must complete an application form; either online, or using the paper-based application form (Word document, 35KB), and attend an interview either in person or via Skype.

Application Timetable

  • Application deadline - Friday 8th October 2010
  • Interviews - 14th & 15th October 2010
  • Places offered to candidates - 1st November 2010

Following the interview you'll either be; offered a place on the course, placed on a reserve list, or not accepted onto the course.

Please note that payment for Gamer Camp: Nano will be taken once you have been offered a place on the course. Payment can be made by Cash/Visa/Mastercard/Cheque/Invoice.

Certificate / Awards

  • All candidates attending the full four week programme will receive a certification of course attendance from NTI Birmingham & Birmingham City University
  • Additional awards will be awarded to teams with;
    • A game signed off by their games industry mentor
    • A review of 4/5 or higher
    • A successfully submitted game


Gamer Camp Nano is open to applicants who fit either of the following programmer or artist criteria:

Programming applicants should have, and be able to demonstrate:

  • C / C++ programming skills
  • Experience working with Windows, Mac OS or Linux API's
  • Must be able to present at interview a game demo or design document for a game
  • Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related discipline is desired but not essential.

Games Artist applicants should have, and be able to demonstrate:

  • Ability to draw (e.g. character design, environment design, concept boards)
  • 2D & ideally 3D design skills
  • Animation skills
  • Must be able to present at interview a game demo, portfolio, design document or application
  • Degree in art, design, graphic, visual communications, animation or related discipline is desired but not essential
