Moral Support

Spending time with Mom on the Chattanooga Choo Choo

On this blog I’ve shared with readers the long road of my singing career, from singing in the shower to winning the state talent competition.

If you recall, winning the state talent competition won me a ticket to Vermont to compete in the North East talent competition.

Mom roped me ... er, I mean, convinced me to join this competition, so she agreed to come with me for moral support.

The drive up... READ MORE

Seminarian Rap

A song for Saturday

OK, this video last six minutes, and you may think you don’t care for rap music, but I promise you that you can’t help but fall in love with it by the end!  The video was created for the feast of Saint Lorenzo Ruiz by seminarian Jeremy Santos.  St. Lorenzo was the first Filipino saint and a martyr for the faith.  If you listen to the rap, Jeremy gives an amazing account of St. Lorenzo’s life.  I LOVE the scenes with all of the priests and seminarians and the “bloopers” at the end of the video.  This is the type of video that we can show our sons to say, “See, seminarians and priests are cool!”  Kudos Jeremy - this Catholic Mom is keeping you and your brother seminarians in her prayers!

Little Musicians

How do you train them?

My daughter’s birthday is coming up, and she wants a drum.

It takes little to push me into audio-overload, so the idea of a drum makes me cringe, but I want to support her desire to have more music in her life.

(I hope she appreciates that I give her the benefit of the doubt and assume that it’s more music she wants. Even though, being almost-four, what she probably wants is not more music but more... READ MORE

Ca C'est Bon!

A song for Saturday!

Last weekend, a commenter left a link to the L’Angelus version of “Be Thou My Vision”, which I enjoyed approximately five hundred times this week.  Hearing it reminded me of this amazing video which I thought I’d share with you today.  After you enjoy it, be sure to head over to the L’Angelus website for more.  You’ll be glad you did!

Be Thou My Vision

A song for Saturday
I heard this song a few weeks ago and it’s been haunting me for the past few weeks - the tune reminds me of my Irish music playing son who’s now living on the other side of the country and the lyrics remind me to trust the Father in heaven who loves us both so dearly.  Enjoy!

What Your Kids Will Be Wanting Soon

Today's "Stevenote" offered a few goodies

If you’re not a geek, you likely didn’t even know that today was the “Stevenote” - a major Apple announcement of some new devices, software and other goodies that we geeks can’t seem to get enough of.  These famous keynote speeches have Apple fanboys (and fanmoms) tuned in online and Tweeting away before, during and after the talk.

Today’s announcements largely centered around upgrades to the iPod... READ MORE

Love

A musical look at love....

A special thanks to Sr. Margaret Kerry, FSP, who shared this on Facebook today.  I loved this video - stunning visual effects and an examination of what “true love” really means.

Music to Birth By

What do you listen to while in labor?

Strangely enough, though I typically have some sort of music playing morning, noon and night, I have never listened to music during any of my previous four labors.

I just stumbled across this article, though, and I think I just might like to try incorporating music into my upcoming birth experience. The article states that “if you choose the right music, you can increase your body’s production of... READ MORE

Wild Innocent Joy

Backyard by Felicita

Here’s a sweet gift of joy a reader emailed me this week.

Six-year-old Felicita wrote and performed this catchy song all by herself. Her four siblings sing and dance along with her, her uncle shot the video on his iPhone, and her dad produced the recording.

The reader who emailed wrote, ” It showcases, I think, the richness and lightness and purity of Joy - singing a little melody and dancing with her sisters, I feel like little Felicity is letting us witness what Chesterton calls ‘the gigantic secret of the Christian.’”

I have to agree. Watch for yourself and see how infectious and attractive genuine joy can be.

Music & Memory

The Duet from Rebecca Teti on Vimeo.

You know what I feel false nostalgia for?

Home music recitals.

Young ladies exhibiting their skill at the pianoforte in Jane Austen or the Christmas dance in Fezziwig’s shop or the impromptus between the Captain and Doctor in Patrick O’Brien’s Master & Commander series: these things give me both delight in reading of them and a mild sense of loss for a time when...
