Audi will launch its new SUV, the Audi Q5, in India by June 2009.
Audi, which had launched its Audi Q5 in Europe, in November 2008, had brought to the market as many as four versions in both petrol and diesel engines.
However, for the India market, Audi is planning to launch only two variants of the Audi Q5, a 3.0-liter TDI diesel car and 2.0 liter TFSI petrol car.
To be brought into India as completely-built-units, the Audi Q5 will be importing from Audi’s Ingolstadt facility.
To facilitate its growth in Inda, Audi plans to invest around 30 million Euros in India, till year 2015.
An Audi spokesman was quoted as saying, “The only SUV in India from our stable is Q7, which is doing tremendously well even in the present situation. But still some people favor a smaller SUV and because of this, we have decided to offer Q5 in the Indian market.”
Apart from the Audi Q5, Audi is also planning to give a face lift to its existing sedan Audi A6 in tune with the needs of the Indian market.
The Audi model available in India, the Audi A4, Audi A6, Audi A8, Audi Q7, Audi TT and Audi R8, are sold from twelve dealerships across the country.
Audi assembles the Audi A4 and A6 at its Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra.
The Aurangabad facility serves as an India hub to group companies such as Volkswagen and Skoda.
Meanwhile, Audi’s sales have picked up considerably. The company sold 113 cars in February 2009 as compared to 58 unit in February 2008, record an increase of 95 percent.
Audi now plans to unveil new models in India, and extend its dealerships network to mini-metros as well, in 2009.
On March 10, 2009, Audi announced that it is planning to launch seven new models by 2010, in its Centenary year. It will start by launching its zero-emission SUV Q7 and A4 in the US and Europe, in 2009.
By 2010, it will launch A1, A4 Allroad, A5 SB, A7, and R8 Spider.
Audi has said that it may launch some of those models in India as well, but has not specified a time frame.
