Hair Therapy

Do you do your own "do"?

I like to think that I’m not a vain person, that I don’t give too much attention to my personal appearance, other than to make sure I’m clean, well groomed and appropriately attired.  My make up routine consists of applying some blush and lip gloss I bought at CVS two years ago on Sundays before Mass, if I’m speaking or have meeting, or if Greg and I are going out on a “date”.

That’s why I’m a bit... READ MORE

Coffee With Friends

Enjoying this space

Yesterday morning, I met up with two friends for Mass. After Mass the three of us (and two sweet baby girls) headed over to a coffee shop to grab some caffeine and fellowship.

We sat together for about an hour and in that time the course of our conversation went from school to homework to employment and husband’s traveling. We talked at length about how we keep our houses clean and whether we worked... READ MORE

New Media Girlfriends

Gathering for the Catholic New Media Celebration

I’m so happy to share this almost perfect picture from this weekend’s Catholic New Media Celebration.  I say “almost” since we’re missing Arwen and Rebecca - but here you see Danielle, Rachel, Robyn and me gathered for the CNMC, hosted this past weekend by the Star Quest Production Network.  It was a weekend of fun, faith and friendship.  Our own Rachel moderated a terrific blogging panel which featured... When "Friends" Become Friends

Meeting "in real life" is awesome!

Yesterday, I felt as though the wall of my Facebook page was coming to life!  I had the great pleasure of attending the Catholic Marketing Network Show and the Catholic Writer’s Conference here in King of Prussia, Pennsylvania.  Being on the show floor is a little bit like going to a Catholic Disneyland, but the best part of being present here is the opportunity to meet so many of my online friends... Future Friends

Meeting future classmates!

Greetings from a hotel room in Northern California.  We’re on the road tonight for a special meetup.  Our Eric, the eighteen year old recent graduate, will be gathering for an informal dinner with members of his future college class from the Northern California area.

He’s been excited all week, a bit anxious and curious about these new friends, who could become a large part of his life during the... READ MORE

Best Friends?

says you: are "best friends" to be encouraged?
Amanda Lim

“I think it is kids’ preference to pair up and have that one best friend. As adults — teachers and counselors — we try to encourage them not to do that.”

So says the director of counseling at a St. Louis school.

So say many other educators at schools and summer camps around the country in a hotly-contested article in the New York Times.

The counter-argument is expressed by a psychologist also interviewed... READ MORE

Moms Supporting One Another

How do you lift up your friends?

For the past two nights, I had the privilege of visiting two parishes in New Jersey to speak with families about faith, parenting and technology issues.  Both evenings were full of grace, as I had the chance to meet online friends “in real life” and to make lots of new friends too.  I love speaking in parishes, and especially enjoy reaching out to fellow Catholic moms.

Last night, one of our Faith... READ MORE

Girls' Night Out

Do you do it?

Whenever I hear someone talking about “girls’ night out” I get a wistful pang.

For a social person like me, the idea of party time sans children is very appealing. I’m not talking wild partying here. A tea party would be plenty wild enough for me, as long as I had something to sip and good conversation with my friends and I didn’t have to wipe a nose or change a diaper the whole time. Unfortunately,... READ MORE

Meeting "In Real Life"

When online friends meet up!

This week, I am in the midwest for some speaking and book related events and meetings.  Today, I had the opportunity to meet up with two of my online friends in “real life” encounters.  The first meeting was with one of my favorite authors, Maria Ruiz Scaperlanda.  Maria is a prolific author of such great books as Edith Stein: St. Teresa Benedicta of the Cross and The Journey: A Guide For The Modern Pilgrim...
