It’s too simplistic and it’s not particularly fair, but the Jaguars know it’s true.
National perception is slow to change. And national perception is that they are struggling to retain or regain a hold in their market, that they could wind up bound for Los Angeles.
Never mind the successful offseason ticket push. Never mind that Monday night is their fourth home game, and is expected to be the fourth game that’s not blacked out locally. Never mind that they are coming off two solid wins and stand at 3-2, the same as everyone else in the AFC South.
The Jaguars get one national snapshot this season, and it comes Monday at EverBank Field against the Titans. A win could do wonders. A dud won’t change many minds.
“It’s one thing to be conscious of it, but it’s another thing to let it overwhelm you,” said Marcedes Lewis, who’s tied for second among NFL tight ends with five touchdowns. “We know it. We invite the challenge and we’re looking forward to going out there and having a great showing. We know we have to go out there and do what we’ve been trained to do.
“We understand there are going to be more lights, more cameras and everything else. But at the end of the day you still have to go out there and play football … We can change perception a lot. All we have to do is go out there and handle our business, regardless of what Tennessee is doing. We’re going to have a good showing and a great crowd out there. It won’t be disappointing.”
