NAMAKKAL: Isha Foundation launched the Central Government-funded project - Ayush-Isha Organic Health Systems - here recently.

Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare S.Gandhiselvan presided over the function in which the Founder of Isha Foundation, Jaggi Vasudev, State Minister for Forests, N Selvaraj, Deputy Speaker, Tamil Nadu Assembly, V.P. Duraisamy, MP K.P. Ramalingam and Collector S. Madhumathi spoke.

Ayush-Isha Organic Health Systems, according to organisers, is a pilot project supported by the Central Government fund of Rs. 2.5 crore and launched under the aegis of Isha Foundation's Isha Outreach as part of its Action for Rural Rejuvenation (ARR) initiative.

Ayush-Isha would seek to improve the health of the rural people of Kolli Hills through a holistic approach involving a unique combination of Ayurveda, Siddha, Naturopathy, essential Allopathic treatments, yogic practices and physical fitness programmes. Creation of herbal gardens would be undertaken in order to ensure that people have access to indigenous medicinal herbs.

A team of dedicated Ayush volunteers had also been formed in order to provide support and maintain the momentum of the project. “ARR is not just about giving the rural people economic or administrative help. It seeks to transform the life of the rural poor. ARR has reached over 4,600 villages, serving a population of over 7 million people,” the organisers said.
