Live '30 Rock' episode
hits a season high

Averages a 3.0 in 18-49s, NBC's best rating in the timeslot

Oct 15, 2010

"30 Rock's" much-hyped live episode got a big ratings spike last night, jumping 43 percent over last week and netting the network's best non-sports ratings in its timeslot since December.

"Rock" averaged a 3.0 adults 18-49 rating at 8:30 p.m., according to Nielsen overnights, bettering last week's 2.1 and finishing just 0.1 behind CBS's "$#*! My Dad Says" in the timeslot.

"Rock" actually aired two live episodes, one for the East Coast and one for the West Coast. Though some critics weren't especially kind to the episode, with the Associated Press dismissing it as "vaudevillian," audiences apparently did not agree: The show hit a season high and built by 36 percent over struggling lead-in "Community."

Meanwhile, CBS easily won the night, with three of its four shows up over the previous week and "The Big Bang Theory" once again finishing as Thursday's No. 2 show.

"Dad" was one of the shows to build, up 7 percent over last week, which should help it secure a full-season order from CBS.

CBS averaged a 3.3 overnight rating and a 10 share among 18-49s for the night. ABC was second at 2.9/8, NBC third at 2.4/7, Fox fourth at 2.3/7, Univision fifth at 1.7/5 and CW sixth at 0.7/2.

As a reminder, all ratings are based on live-plus-same-day DVR playback. Seven-day DVR data won’t be available for several weeks. Thirty-eight percent of Nielsen households have DVRs.

At 8 p.m. CBS was first with a 3.6 average for "Bang" (4.1) and "Dad" (3.1), while NBC and Fox tied for second at 2.6, NBC for "Community" (2.2) and "Rock" (3.0) and Fox for "Bones." Univision was fourth with a 1.8 for "Hasta que el Dinero Nos Separe," ABC fifth with a 1.1 for a repeat of "Grey's Anatomy" and CW sixth with a 0.9 for a "Vampire Diaries" rerun.

ABC took the lead at 9 p.m. with a 4.5 for a new "Grey's," the night's highest-rated show, with CBS and NBC tied for second at 3.1, CBS for "CSI" and NBC for "The Office" (3.7) and "Outsourced" (2.5). Univision was fourth with a 2.1 for "Soy Tu Dueña," Fox fifth with a 1.9 for "Fringe" and CW sixth with a 0.6 for a repeat of "Nikita."

At 10 p.m. CBS regained the lead with a 3.3 for "The Mentalist," followed by ABC with a 3.0 for "Private Practice." NBC was third with a 1.3 for "The Apprentice" and Univision fourth with a 1.1 for "Rosa de Guadalupe."

CBS also finished first for the night among households with an 8.3 overnight rating and a 14 share. ABC was second at 5.4/9, Fox third at 4.5/7, NBC fourth at 3.2/5, Univision fifth at 1.9/3 and CW sixth at 1.2/2.
