The group previously hosted the now-wanted al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki in the weeks after 9/11.

Last month, I reported exclusively at PJM about video showing al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki leading prayers on Capitol Hill for Muslim congressional staffers and officials for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR). Sitting beside now-convicted terrorist (and former CAIR communications specialist) Randall “Ismail” Royer in the video was Congressional Muslim Staff Association founder and former president Jameel Johnson. Also present was Nihad Awad, CAIR’s executive director.

But a recent New York Post article about how Johnson’s former employer, Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY), complained to Homeland Security in 2006 about the questioning of another al-Qaeda-linked cleric, Anwar Hajjaj, stated that Hajjaj was then leading prayers for the Muslim staffers on Capitol Hill.

In fact, Meeks invoked Hajjaj’s continued presence on the Hill to demonstrate that he was a “highly regarded” Islamic scholar:

Meeks described Hajjaj as a “highly regarded” professor of Islamic studies who leads Friday Muslim prayers at the Capitol.

Meeks said Hajjaj was “a pioneer in distance-based learning of Islam” through the American Open University in Virginia, according to a copy of the Sept. 30, 2006, letter to Chertoff, which was obtained by The Post under a Freedom of Information Act request.

At the time that CMSA was hosting a second al-Qaeda cleric, it was being lauded by the New York Times as a voice of moderation on Capitol Hill.

The NY Post article states that Meeks became aware of Hajjaj’s plight through Johnson, who was then Meeks’ chief-of-staff. As I reported here at PJM in December 2007, Johnson arranged — under the auspices of Meeks’ congressional office — an Islamic conference that was cancelled at the last minute by the House sergeant-at-arms because of the terrorism ties of the invited speakers. In January 2008, Jameel Johnson was appointed associate vice president of government relations for NASDAQ.

Why the scrutiny by Homeland Security for CMSA’s Capitol Hill prayer leader?

Anwar Hajjaj was the long-time head of an Islamic charity, Taibah International Aid Association, which the U.S. government identified as an al-Qaeda fundraising arm in May 2004 and designated as a terrorist organization. The UN also designated Taibah as a terrorist organization.

Hajjaj’s terrorism fundraising efforts were aided by American al-Qaeda bagman Abdurahman Alamoudi, who served as Taibah International’s vice president and who is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence. Prior to his arrest, Alamoudi was responsible for establishing the Muslim chaplain program for the Defense Department, and was appointed a “goodwill ambassador” to the Middle East by the State Department.

When Alamoudi was arrested in 2003, prosecutors identified Alamoudi’s work with Taibah in court documents as evidence of his “material financial support” for al-Qaeda. In July 2005, the U.S. government said that Alamoudi’s arrest was a “severe blow” to al-Qaeda’s fundraising operations.

As the NY Post article observes, Taibah is not Anwar Hajjaj’s only link to al-Qaeda. Hajjaj was also director of the American branch of the Saudi-funded World Assembly of Muslim Youth (WAMY) with Osama bin Laden’s nephew, Abdullah bin Laden. WAMY’s Northern Virginia offices were raided in June 2004, and Hajjaj’s partner Abdullah bin Laden subsequently left the country. The FBI began its investigation into WAMY in 1996 for being a “suspected terrorist organization.”

Feisal Abdul Rauf has attacked the Western notion of separation of church and state and says America was responsible for 911 yet he is Americas “bridge” to the “muslim world”…so having islamist sanctioned on capital hill should not be a surprise to anyone..of course they can’t send a real moderate muslim to be our spokesperson as they would be killed

  2. Do we really need any more proof that CAIR is a terrorist organization, or at least that it funds terrorist organizations, like Hamas and Hezbollah? The FBI and the Justice Department should be spending a lot, and I mean a lot, of time trying to put most of their leaders in jail. And someone should be telling Janet Napolitano that we need to be following the leaders of CAIR and pursuing them as enemies of the state, rather than those “dangerous” Tea Party people. I sometimes wonder how radical Islamists keep from laughing at us after seeing some of our leaders, like Napolitano and Eric Holder. We really need to get better leaders at the Justice Department and in Homeland Security. Our lives literally depend on it.

Just as perspective check out this article from Huffpo (and yes i know how biased they),but almost all the comments are pro- Iran.Yep there sure is no fifth column in the US.Thats why there are so many Iranians that come to my country? They are here for two reason. One they are fleeing persecution in Iran and dont want to raise a family in that environment OR two they are here to cause trouble. Most are more than likely here for reason one.But i would maintain an eye on most of these pro Islamist left wing sites.

Despite the fact that Iran has been engaged for two years ,they continue to give us the finger.Remember that.

    Thank you Mr. Poole,

This is the kind of exposure of Islamists in the WH and the halls of Congress that our country needs; this so basic it’s embarrasing. Islam, as you know has long since identified its mission of stealth jihad in the U.S.A. and those that have supported that mission are either clueless or treasonous to the core. This PC nonsense has literally placed us on the ropes.

I believe that the POTUS is clueless…he needs our prayers because the wave of stealth Islamicity is reaching tsunami proportions it seems. What about all the stuff we DON’T know?? Islam is using our own rules against us, and so far it has succeeded because our ‘gatekeepers’ throughout the nation have been asleep.

Our gatekeepers are STILL asleep and blissfully unaware of the dangers that surround us. I am ashamed of the juvenile nature of our leadership at the highest levels of government. I seeth every time I hear mention of an Islamist presence in the WH mocking our pathetic gatekeepers; which they do merely by their presence.

Mr.Poole, I’m doubly grateful for this piece. Forget the economy; forget the Primaries; forget the politican manouvering going on; ALL that, pales in comparison to the threat posed by Islam.

      Obama is clueless???

Not hardly. The entire focus of his presidency is on the redistribution of wealth and power from white people to people of color everywhere.

That madman empathizes with Muslims, including terrorists. Hell, two of his best friends and most ardent supporters are black Muslim miltants, Malik Shabazz and Lois Farachhan. His campaign received HUGE donations from Muslims, both foreign and domestic, and in case you haven’t heard, he ain’t exactly chummy with Israel, even though he received so much support from goofy Jewish-Americans that I read somewhere that it was the Jewish vote that put that ingrate over the top and enabled him to win the 2008 election. Don’t you pay any attention to the news?

Why would you pray for him? He is so evil that he is WAY beyond redemption.

      • Dianne

Forget the economy, Mr. Husky??? Forget political maneuvering by politicians??? They pale in importance compared to the threat presented by Islam???

I’m incredulous!!! Do you live in a vacuum??? Are you Wendy or Peter Pan?

Do you have a clue as to what is going on out here in the real world? Your perspectives and priorities are ditzy at best.

        • HUSKY

          Point taken Dianne,

Obama IS clueless regarding the evil that threatens us and him personally…from Islam; that is the focus of my comments. The rest of the shananigans are purposeful of course and I will concede that they are all important…they were not set out individually as priorities as such.

Nobody is beyond redemption Dianne…Jesus Himself did not disparage of anyone. We do not have to Like Obama, but we do have to Love him…hence my suggestion to pray for him – it’s the most loving thing to do.

This is nothing new with black Congressman Gregory Meeks of New York. He is another ignorant big mouth like Maxine Waters, and like Maxine Waters, also, he has always been an ill-mannered, sullen, surley, crass, clueless, obstinate, snotty, incredibly stupid and belligerent troublemaker and obstructionist, who doesn’t serve ANY useful purpose in Congress, and who has a long history of deliberately creating tempests in teapots, just to be a pain in the ass.

If he was a native American indian, he would have been staked-out spread-eagle on an ant hill by members of his own tribe a long, long time ago. Only the black community would tolerate the obnoxious behavior of that ignorant jackass.

you my lady have just about covered all the Democrats on the hill with the inclusion of the POTUSINO and I pray that on November 2, 2010 we rid this nation of all the ilk you speak of. Thank you for the input and it was put in correctly

The Muslim Mafia, by Gaubatz and Sperry, and Infiltration, by Sperry, sheds irrefutable light on the above article. The Islamist fox is burrowed deep within the bowels of ALL power centers in Washington.ALL of them.

Read the above higly researched and documented books, and the heretofore unfathomable becomes explicable.

    • Paul -Indiana

Islamist fox or Islamic Snake? One of the Muslim reps is from here in Indiana. He is Andre Carson. He is as worthless a rep as was his aunt, Julia Carson.

We American’s,are being taken over by an insidious group, while our clueless leaders, stand by and do nothing—– or do they know, and feel that it is the only way to keep their gravy train jobs? We need to wise up and kick the Meeks, Carsons, Pelosis and Waters out on November 2, along with all the other do nothings. There are some good people in office, but they will be soon outnumbered,if we do not wake up, and vote out the politicians who don’t give a damn for anyone but themselves.

Great reporting. Please keep it up.

WHY ARE THESE MUSLIM STAFFERS NOT IN JAIL FOR TREASON? Aiding and abetting our enemies in time of war is TREASON. Pick up your guns America and FIGHT BACK. No more sitting on our collective backsides: Get the guns, get the ammo and FIGHT BACK.

    • HUSKY

“WHY ARE THESE MUSLIM STAFFERS NOT IN JAIL FOR TREASON?” – How can it be that they are aiding and abetting the enemy? They are Islamists and THEY ARE the enemy. They are of one mind with the enemy. What they are doing is purposeful, and it is in accordance with their beliefs.

Any candidate that replaces existing candidates this election cycle should have to answer this question; “Do you believe that Islam is an enemy of the West, particularly the U.S.A. and Israel, and seeks the destruction of Western society; particulary the U.S.A.?

      That, is a no brainer.

  9. 9. Larry in the Silicon

“Distance-based learning of Islam” is something we can all benefit from, at a distance. Actually, learning more of Islam is to everyone’s benefit. That Washington is significantly Islamized is not surprising. Folks here will continue to believe it is a left-Democrat phenomenon; as Adina says, it goes beyond that.

  10. 10. call me Roy

Wow, seems like every other day we hear about a different Islamic leader proclaming one thing and later we find out that it was a lie.
Gee, for so few radicals out there in the world, they sure get around, don’t they? But, they told us their religion was peaceful? You mean they lied to us? And we Socialist Progessive’s (I mean Democrat American’s) believed them? I guess I should stop watching the Main, I mean Lame-Stream Media? Oh my God, it is true?MSNBC, CNN, ABC, CBS, NPR, and PBS have all become Pravda America.

The FBI just took a member of Hamas on a tour of secure FBI facilities. We have the enemy within.

You know, I beg to differ on the “radical” Muslim is the problem paradigm. By definition, a radical Muslim wouldn’t be going around doing what traditional Muslims do–you know, for example honor killings, going on jihad, basically getting back to basics and re-affirming the unity of mosque and state. Until, that semantic issue is cleared up, American politicians are still going to mistake moderate traditional Muslims having a religious reformation for “radical” Muslims who want no part of the tradition.

  13. 13. ObamaYoMoma

Islam needs to be outlawed on the grounds that it is not a religion, because after the Hijra, Muhammad’s migration from Mecca to Medina, Islam morphed into something else altogether: a militant theo-political totalitarian ideology, and it was this transformation from the realm of religion to the realm of jihad, politics, and conquest that enabled Islam to become so successful that it conquered most of the known world only 100 years after the death of Muhammad. Had Islam remained a religion like it was when Muhammad lived in Mecca, Islam would have died out in the desert when Muhammad died and no one would have ever heard of Islam and Muhammad.

Furthermore, all the earlier verses of the Koran that originate from when Muhammad lived in Mecca and from the time when Islam was just a religion only, per the doctrine of abrogation, Al-mansukh wa al-nasikh, the abrogated and the abrogating, have been superseded, (i.e., abrogated and replaced) by the later Medinan verses of the Koran, or those verses of the Koran issued after the Hijra. Hence, because all the peaceful Meccan verses of the Koran that originate from the time when Islam was still only a religion have been abrogated and replaced by the later Medinan verses, it is clear that Islam ceased being a religion after the Hijra when Islam morphed into something else: a militant theo-political totalitarian ideology. Hence, contrary to popular belief the facts indicate that Islam isn’t a religion and therefore isn’t protected by the free exercise clause of the first amendment, and anyone claiming otherwise, doesn’t really understand what Islam is.

    • Seth

From what I have learned/discovered about Islam through several years of research, I agree with your characterization of the nature of Islam, and I believe that you are also correct in the reasoning you have laid out showing why Islam is a politico-military ideology and not a religion and, as such, should be stripped of its status as a “religion,” along with all the protections and benefits that Islam’s designation as a “religion” has allowed Muslims and Islam to use and abuse.

  14. 14. Anonymous

WAMY..how appropriate a pronunciation..whammy..they laid another one on the unsuspecting, on the verge of being comatose American public.

America truly does not know what Islam is. We’re a nation of “oh they’re not hurting me” people that we are going to be in for a rude awakening.

  15. 15. tanstaafl

…showing al-Qaeda cleric Anwar al-Awlaki leading prayers on Capitol Hill for Muslim congressional staffers and officials for the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR).

Was that before or after al-Awlaki was arrested (twice, I think) for soliciting prostitutes in San Diego ?

Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY) is currently embroiled in his own shady Rangel-like financial shenanigans and is likely spending less time defending radical Islamists on Capitol Hill.

  16. 16. kjatexas

And now we have appointed, as described in the news, two devout Muslims to high level Homeland Security positions. Is this administration out of its mind?
