HOUSTON, Texas - The Federal Aviation Administration says a small plane got too close to a Continental jet as it was approaching George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

No one was injured. But FAA spokesman Lynn Lunsford said Continental Express Flight 2979 had to climb 300 feet to avoid the single-engine experimental aircraft on Friday afternoon.

Lunsford said the Continental jet passed over the small plane and landed normally. He said the Continental pilot estimated he came within 100 feet of the small aircraft.

Lunsford also said the pilot of the small plane says the navigation equipment wasn't working properly.

Continental's website reported Flight 2979 was flying to Houston from Kansas City. The FAA is investigating.

Navigation system wasn't working???? How about his radio?? I am a pilot. and I know you don't just fly into that 'Class A' restricted airspace without permission. Restricted air space extends twenty miles out from these large airports and you must have permission to enter into that airspace. And you must have a radio and stay in touch with the air traffic controller. This nut broke all kinds of rules and should and probably will lose his license.
