27.10.2010 - In 2011, Daniel Abt will race in the Formula 3 Euro Series. The son of DTM Team Principal Hans-Jürgen Abt has signed a deal with Team Signature.
"I'm truly looking forward to this new challenge," says Daniel Abt. "For several years, now, I have followed the Formula 3 Euro Series held in the DTM support programme and I'm proud of being one of the drivers on its grid, next year."
Daniel Abt is just 17 years old but has got three years of single-seater racing experience under his belt, nevertheless. He contested two ADAC Formula Masters seasons and in the second he secured the title. Then he made the step up to the German ATS Formula 3 Cup and proved to be extremely competitive in his debut season. He succeeded in keeping his championship chances alive up to the season finale. Only there, he was defeated by the former Euro Series driver Tom Dillmann. Nonetheless, finishing runner-up in the championship also represented a major success, in maiden Formula 3 season.
He contested all his steps on the car-racing ladder to date with Volkswagen engines. "By winning the 2009 ADAC Formula Masters title and finishing runner-up in the ATS Formula 3 Cup, this year, Daniel Abt has proven to be one of Germany's fastest motor-racing young guns," underlines Volkswagen Motorsport Director Kris Nissen. "He is ready to make the next step and we are delighted that he remains a member of the Volkswagen family."
Daniel will begin working for his new squad, Signature, as early as this year: in Macau in mid-November and one week later in Korea, the hopeful German will race a Dallara-Volkswagen for the team that won both the drivers' and the team titles in this year's Formula 3 Euro Series Championship.
