Rhymefest Running for Chicago Alderman

"The definition of revolution is love."

Rhymefest Running for Chicago Alderman

In the four years after his debut, Blue Collar, socially conscious Chicago hip-hop vet Che Smith, aka Rhymefest, kept relatively quiet before returning with this year's El Che. Now, Time Out Chicago reports that he has made the leap into politics, announcing his candidacy for alderman (a position on the City Council) of the 20th Ward of Chicago.

Hey, remember back in June, when the Pains of Being Pure at Heart put out a video for recent single "Say No To Love", and it featured band member Peggy Wang fucking around in a mall and eating a lot of gross mall food? Good times. Well, apparently there was too much footage of mall misadventures to fit into one clip, so Brooklyn Vegan has a sorta new video for the song, cheekily titled the "Mall Punks Edit", and you can check it out below.

Watch an Unreleased Outtake From the Magnetic Fields Documentary Strange Powers

Insight into the song "Reno Dakota" from Reno Dakota himself

Watch an Unreleased Outtake From the Magnetic Fields Documentary Strange Powers

The Magnetic Fields: "Reno Dakota"

Reno Dakota

Strange Powers: Stephin Merritt and the Magnetic Fields, the documentary film about beloved curmudgeon Stephen Merritt and his Magnetic Fields project, directed by Kerthy Fix and Gail O'Hara, will see nationwide theatrical release this fall. Below, you can watch an outtake from the film, which will be included on the DVD release, due out next year. In the clip, the real Reno Dakota (yes, he's a real person!) talks about how he was the inspiration for the song "Reno Dakota" from the Magnetic Fields' landmark 1999 triple-album 69 Love Songs. Then he sings his own response song. For reference, you can stream the Magnetic Fields song "Reno Dakota" above.

Watch: The Diplo and Lunice Remix of Deerhunter's "Helicopter" Gets a Video

Remember that remix of Deerhunter's "Helicopter" that Diplo and Lunice did last month? Well, Mad Decent's Twitter just pointed out that the take on the Halcyon Digest highlight has a video now, and it's pretty cool-looking.

The clip, put together by the KiD, takes footage from Andrey Stvolinsky's visual art piece "Slow Moscow" and syncs it almost perfectly with the song's strung-out, floaty sound. Check it out below.
