  • Hanna Montana and Fianna Fáil

    One film I definitely won’t be going to see is Hanna Montana: The Movie. But the basic storyline suggests it is something Fianna Fáil strategists might take a look at. The main character is an ordinary teenager who becomes a pop superstar by the simple expedient of donning a blonde wig.

  • Tales of a Fortune-Teller

    Sometime in late April or early May there will be flurries of analysis pieces all headlined ‘Obama: The First 100 Days’.

    There’s no doubt about it. It is an enticing headline and implies the first weathervane of how the leader is coping with the new job; and the first signs of the imprint they may evenutally make. (more…)

  • Last Word on the PDs

    Before they are washed away by the receding tide of political history, a few points need to be made about the Progressive Democrats. Joe Higgins described them as an “utterly malign influence” on Vincent Browne’s late-night TV3 programme but that’s too dismissive – they were not all bad, or all good. (more…)
