Saints are pleased to announce that they have extended Richard Chaplow's loan spell until the end of December.

The 25 year-old midfielder featured in all six of the fixtures he was eligible for during his initial one month deal, four of which were starts, as he bolstered the team's options in the middle of the park during the separate absences of Morgan Schneiderlin and Dean Hammond.

Chaplow's existing loan deal expired after Tuesday evening's win over Dagenham & Redbridge, but Saints have agreed with his parent club Preston that he will remain on the south coast until 31st December, taking his time at the Club to ninety-three days - the maximum allowed on an emergency loan.

As a result, Chaplow will be eligible to play in this weekend's FA Cup first round tie against Shrewsbury Town at St. Mary's.
