Patching
1. You may receive a naming error while patching, such as this one:
Q u o t e:
The patch "enUS\component.wow-enUS.txt" could not be applied. (CRC mismatch: expected 0xf5d2c172, actual 0xa5b71e86.) If this problem persists, you may be able to solve it by uninstalling and then reinstalling the game. If you are unable to correct this problem, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (BNUpdate::PTCApply)
To check this installation for problems, click the "Repair" button. The Repair tool can automatically fix many update errors.
This will occur when you're missing the Data\patch-3.mpq file and you're at version 3.3.0a. You can try reverting the game if you want but future patches may run into errors. To revert the game, go to your World of Warcraft\Data\ folder and delete the patch.MPQ file. If you have the patch-2.MPQ and patch-3.MPQ files, delete those as well. Go back to the World of Warcraft folder and run the repair utility.
Reverting will be much faster than a full reinstall. A reinstall is needed if this does not fix it.

2. You may receive a naming error while patching, such as this one:
Q u o t e:
The file "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Wow.exe.temp" could not be renamed to "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Wow.exe". If this problem persists, you may be able to solve it by uninstalling and then reinstalling the game. If you are unable to correct this problem, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (ConflictManager::ResolveConflicts/2)
The file "C:\Program Files\World of Warcraft\Wow.exe.temp" could not be deleted. (ConflictManager::UncreateObjects)
To check this installation for problems, click the "Repair" button. The Repair tool can automatically fix many update errors.
It seems that an antivirus software (reported ones: NOD32, Security Suite) is blocking the patch from working with the files. Try updating its definition files or try to temporarily turn it off for patching.

3. You may get an error saying that a Uninstall.xml.temp could not be created, renamed or deleted.
Q u o t e:
The file "C:\Program Files\Common Files\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft\Uninstall.xml.temp" could not be created. If this problem persists, you may be able to solve it by uninstalling and then reinstalling the game. If you are unable to correct this problem, please contact Blizzard Technical Support. (InstallerFile::Create)
If you are on Windows Vista or 7, please right-click your launcher and click on Run as Administrator. If that doesn't fix the problem, go to the folder that it mentioned and delete the Uninstall.xml file. In this example, it's
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Blizzard Entertainment\World of Warcraft\. Start the patch again afterward. If that does not work, go up to the Blizzard Entertainment folder and delete the entire affected folder.

4. The Launcher disappears at 70%
This issue seems to appear if an antivirus program, like Kaspersky, is blocking the patch from starting up. Try temporarily disabling it for the patch process. If this does not work, you can try to download the patch you need from the mirror links on the bottom post, then try installing it in Safe Mode -

5. The patcher is waiting for files to close.
This issue happens if one or more of your game files are open. Windows locks it so you can't overwrite it. You need to close them first before the patcher can continue. Try hitting
Control+Alt+Delete on your computer. Make sure none of these are running in the Processes tab:
WoW.exe
Launcher.exe
BackgroundDownloader.exe
Repair.exe
WowError.exe
If any of those are running, try ending the task. The patch should continue afterward.

8. You receive the following error while patching:
Q u o t e:
This update requires wow.exe v3.1.3.9947. You have an older version 0.2.0.xxxxx.
This issue will happen if your system registry got the PTR and WOW folders confused. Try right-clicking your game shortcut and run it as an administrator. The Launcher should have access to update your registry key when you do this.

9. You receive the following error while patching:
Q u o t e:
Wow.exe cannot be found
This issue will happen if your system registry does not have the location to your World of Warcraft folder. Try right-clicking your game shortcut and run it as an administrator. The Launcher should have access to update your registry key when you do this.
Update: 11/9/09's Tools Update patch will now try to write the registry key for you regardless of running it as admin or not as long as you're under a Windows Administrator account. The trick is to get this tools update patch loaded first, which should happen after installing Wrath/3.0.
