Looking Forward To 2011

It’s tough watching the post season games without the Red Sox being a part of it. There is little doubt that the Red Sox will return to their winning ways next season. Every Red Sox fan is well aware of the injuries that derailed their 2010 season. Even with those injuries, the strength and depth of their system showed. Darnell McDonald, Ryan Kalish, Daniel Bard, Daniel Nava, and Felix Doubront came through, when the injuries began to pile up. White Sox Slam Red Sox 8-2

Thursday night’s power outage in the 6th inning of Boston game with Chicago, came two innings too late for Boston. 1B Paul Konerko’s grand slam in the bottom of the 4th ended SP Jon Lester’s bid to become the first Boston left hander to win 20 games since Mel Parnell in 1953. With the score tied 2-2, Konerko hit a 3-2 two out drive over the wall in left, for a grand slam. Lester simply did not have his usual great stuff, he gave up eight runs, on nine hits, while walking five, in five plus innings. Chicago SP John Danks on the other hand, limited the Red Sox to just two runs, on five hits over six innings, to gain his 15th win of the season.

Garcia 4 Hits Boston; White Sox Win 5-2

Freddy Garcia 4-hit the Boston Red Sox on Wednesday night at U.S. Cellular Field in Chicago, to pick up his 12th victory of the season. Garcia pitched seven innings allowing only four hits, making pretty easy work of the Red Sox hitters. He kept them off stride pretty much the entire night. Relievers J.J. Putz and Matt Thornton held Boston hitless for the final two frames, as Chicago won game three of their four game series 5-3. The final line for Garcia was 7IP/4H/2R/0BB/1K. The Red Sox got hits in only two innings of the game, the 4th, and the 8th, the rest of the night they were stymied.

White Sox Walk-Off In 9th Beat Red Sox 5-4

The Red Sox hopes were dashed on Tuesday night, long before pinch hitter Dayan Viciedo’s two-out single sailed into left field, scoring Juan Pierre with the winning run, in Chicago’s 5-4 victory. Both New York and Tampa Bay won their games earlier, eliminating the Red Sox from any chance for a post season berth. It is now time to rest the vets, finish out the season, and look forward to 2011. The BoSox played admirably this season amid the rash of injuries to their key players. But, as Tom Hanks so aptly put it, ‘there is no crying in baseball.’ Kudos to the Yanks and Rays for their fine seasons. Kudos to Terry Francona and the young players in the Red Sox farm system for their great contributions.
