DALLAS -- Caron Butler will miss a second consecutive game with back spasms, but the Dallas Mavericks will have star Dirk Nowitzki in the lineup for Friday night's home game against the Philadelphia 76ers despite suffering a sprained right ankle two nights ago.

"He's OK," Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle said Friday morning of Nowitzki, who twisted the ankle late in the second quarter against the Memphis Grizzlies before returning later in the game. "He's expected to play."

As for Butler, back spasms forced him out of Monday's game against Boston. He did not make the trip to Memphis and he did not participate in Friday morning's shootaround.

"Hopefully we can get this thing resolved and have him ready for Monday [against New Orleans], but we're going to continue to list him day to day," Carlisle said. "We're going to err on the side of caution."

Shawn Marion will get his second start in place of Butler. Marion scored 20 points and had seven rebounds in a season-high 35 minutes in the 106-91 win at Memphis.

"Shawn's a high-level player," Carlisle said. "The other night he was doing some great things, both offensively and defensively; getting our movement game going on offense, and defensively he's always going to have one of the tough assignments."

Against the 76ers, Marion would likely match up against Andre Iguodala. The dangerous swingman missed the last two games with tendinitis in his right Achilles tendon. He practiced for the first time Thursday in nearly a week when the team worked out at SMU and he is expected to play Friday.

In other Mavs injury news, there remains no timeline for guard Rodrigue Beaubois' return. His healing left foot remains in a boot and he is due for his weekly exam by team doctors on Monday.
