Bike Lane Violations in Washington DC
FedEx Business as usual
6 st NE, Washington dc, DC
FedEx truck blocks the bikelane while there were plenty of empty parking spots around. I *nicely* asked the driver if he was aware that he was standing in a bikelane and suggested that the parking space was much safer. The driver explained: "I can park anywhere I want you piece of sh**"
Same driver different day
New Jersey Ave, SE, Washington dc, DC
What, does this guy spend all day every day being a public nuisance?
Parked in travel lane
New Jersey Ave, SE, Washington dc, DC
In view of the nation's capitol, no less.
Parking Enforcement Fail
14th St NW and Irving Road NW, Washington dc, DC
This guy was parked in the bike lane for at least twenty minutes outside of DCUSA.
More Council Bullshit
13th St. and New York Avenue NW, Washington dc, DC
Today an illegally parked car almost caused me to crash coming down a steep hill on 13th St. NW. The car belonged to none other than Ward 2 Council Member Jack Evans.
The vehicle was not in a marked bike lane, but the right lane is pretty important to cyclists in the absence of painted lanes, and this car was violating at least three rules: No Parking Any Time sign, Emergency No Parking, and parking less than 15 feet from an intersection.
If I had crashed (and it was a close call were it not for a kind driver one lane over who stopped short to let me in), it would have been no consolation that the council member did not have to spend 5 minutes finding a legal and SAFE place to leave his car, like everyone else.
City Council Bullshit, Literally
1350 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, Washington dc, DC
This is not your usual mybikelane violation. The culprit was a horse, not a car.
The bike lane immediately in front of the John A. Wilson Building, the offices of the DC Mayor and City Council, was blocked by a pile of horse turd. I didn't know whether to curse or laugh. I swerved just in time. Ironically, the Council was doing a photo op right in front of it, oblivious to the crap in the street.
USPS
f and 9 nw, Washington dc, DC
USPS truck parked in bike lane. Then it proceeded to drive a couple blocks in the bike lane.
19th & Q Streets NW
19th St NW and Q St NW, Washington, DC
I see this delivery truck blocking the Q Street bike lane fairly often... This time I decided to stop and snap a photo - and will do so from now on.
14th and Q Streets NW
Q St NW and 14th St NW, Washington, DC
Trucking blocking the eastbound bike lane on Q Street, just before the intersection at 14th Street
BMW in 15th St. Contraflow Bike Lane
15th and R St. NW, Washington dc, DC
About 5:30AM on my way to work, I came across this BMW parked squarely in the contraflow lane on 15th st. NW.
Convoy
E Street NW and 12th Street NW, Washington dc, DC
E Street NW is bad in the morning -- lots of people parking in the bike lane -- but, this was bad on many levels. A cop pulled up and parked on the left (oncoming) from the first photo. He looked over the situation, he had even watched me take pictures, and then he got out of his police car and walked up 12th, not doing a thing.
Another day, another fedex truck in my way
450 10th St. NW, Washington dc, DC
This is pretty much a daily occurrence
Cop in bike lane
Irving St NW at 14th St NW, Washington dc, DC
Cop was on the sidewalk, talking to other BIKE COPS! Lights were on but there was obviously no emergency (and room to park immediately up ahead)
The city giveth, city taketh away
Pennsylvania Ave. and 13th St. NW, Washington dc, DC
Thank you DC Department of Transportation for the brand new bike lanes on Pennsylvania Avenue, but do you have to then park a city vehicle gratuitously blocking this new lane, and right in front of the Wilson Building (city hall), no less?! Oh, the irony.
Q Street & 18th Street NW
1785 q street nw, Washington, DC
Q Street NW between 18th Street NW and 17th Street NW
Q Street & 9th Street NW
Que St NW and 9th St NW, Washington, DC
Delivering a blocked bike lane, apparently.
Q Street & Connecticut Avenue NW
Q St NW and 20th St NW, Washington, DC
Uh, a bike lane isn't a taxi stand... Just FYI.
7th & H NW
7th St NW and H St NW, Washington, DC
Another waste of life taxi driver ignoring the bike lane laws... I can't believe the lack of enforcement along this stretch of road. The signs (both posted AND painted) clearly say this lane is for buses and bikes ONLY - The police do absolutely nothing. The ticket revenue alone would more than pay for the additional officers, so I'm not sure why they don't cash in on this.
7th & H NW
7th St NW and H St NW, Washington, DC
Again, another driver doing whatever the hell they want with no consequences. That's a bike lane, not an HOV lane. Thanks, MPD.
7th & H NW
7th St NW and H St NW, Washington, DC
Another violation in the "buses and bikes ONLY" lane... MPD does nothing.
7th & G NW
G St NW and 7th St NW, Washington, DC
I didn't realize "buses and bikes ONLY" included anything about taxi cabs... I'm pretty sure it doesn't, actually.
7th & H NW
795 7th St NW, Washington, DC
Taxis never obey the signs, crosswalks, or bike lanes anyway... So no surprise here.
7th & H NW
795 7th St NW, Washington, DC
These pictures were all taken within a 10-minute time frame... I can't imagine the number of violators in a 24-hour period.
7th & H NW
795 7th St NW, Washington, DC
This would be a HUGE source of ticket revenue for the police... I have no idea why they don't cash in on this. Clearly NO ONE obeys the bike lane laws on this stretch.
7th & H NW
795 7th St NW, Washington, DC
I guess cabbies aren't required to pass a literacy test... Apparently "buses and bikes ONLY" doesn't apply to these people.
7th & H NW
795 7th St NW, Washington, DC
I guess "buses and bikes ONLY" doesn't apply to these people.
7th & H NW

Couldn't get a legible plate number - but notice the police officer casually doing NOTHING about the bike lane violation. I guess it's not "his jurisdiction".
Vermont Avenue NW
1320 Vermont Avenue NW, Washington, DC
Double Fail. I wish my cell phone camera had more pixels... Couldn't quite read the plate numbers from the photo.
Vermont Avenue NW
1320 Vermont Avenue NW, Washington, DC
Another mental giant parked on VT Ave (southbound)... Unfortunately the plate was washed out.
Vermont Avenue @ Logan Circle
1250 Vermont Avenue NW, Washington, DC
The driver *just* started to pull away as I took the picture... He was definitely blocking the bicycle lane with his hazards on before that.
Vermont Avenue NW
1310 Vermont Avenue NW, Washington, DC
Yet another driver blocking the (southbound) bike lane on Vermont Avenue between Thomas and Logan Circles
Vermont Avenue @ Logan Circle NW
1323 Vermont Avenue NW, Washington, DC
Worthless crap stain blocking the southbound bike lane on Vermont Avenue NW. Again, go back to Maryland!
Vermont Avenue @ N Street NW
1270 Vermont Avenue NW, Washington, DC
Big van + small bike lane = Fail.
Vermont Ave @ Thomas Circle NW
1150 Vermont Avenue NW, Washington, DC
Blocking the bike lane for no apparent reason, near the CVS at 1150 Vermont Avenue NW. Go back to Maryland!
Moving Day
928 T St., NW, Washington, DC
I really really wanted to just ride up into the back of the moving van like on Knight Rider. Still, not cool - I know this block has nice wide alleys out back.
Guess he never learned to parallel park
1020 G St., NW, Washington, DC
so he just parked in the bike lane instead.
Just Parking Here
1206 G St., NW, Washington, DC
parked in the bike lane while running into the store
A-hole taxi in Thomas Circle
Thomas Circle NW, Washington, DC
This guy was just hanging out in the bike lane at the northern end of Thomas Circle NW. Notice the cyclist who had to divert into the car lanes since this waste of life wouldn't get out of the way.
Double Trouble
15th St. and Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington dc, DC
Morning rush (8:40 AM), and DPW decided it would be a good time to do the street sweeping on the southbound counterflow bike lane on 15th. After being pushed into oncoming traffic by two sweepers and a DPW vehicle (background), I made it less than a block before being forced back into the northbound travel lane by this guy. Not adding the plate #, since there's a good chance it wasn't entirely his fault - he was talking with an MPD officer (parked across the street) who apparently didn't think it was necessary to tell the guy to move out of the bike lane.
Vermont Avenue NW
1315 vermont avenue nw, Washington dc, DC
I tried to get a better picture, but you can clearly see the bike lane from the reflection on the rear of the SUV. This was on Vermont Avenue NW between N Street and Logan Circle.
