I'd like to know what the small case letter represents that is found after a serial number.

It can't mean what arsenal it was made in because some of my GEW 88s have the same small case letter and they are clearly stamped with different Arsenal names.

I don't have any book that helps me find an answer to this questions, so I thought that maybe some member of the forum would know...WOLF

It represents a series of rifles up to 9999, next series up to 9999 a, next series up to 9999 b, and so on.

Excentric, you bet. Why did they do it this way? Rolling Eyes Question

Thanks, based upon what you're saying. Could it mean that a rifle w/o a small case letter would be more rare?

Also, could it mean that a serial number that ends w/ a small case a would be rarer than a serial number w/ a small case g???WOLF

Just the opposite, one with a low number like 10 and no letter would be rarer I would think. It would represent the 10th rifle produced from a given arsenal in a given production year.
