One of Africa’s most respectable and democratically elected president, Dr Ernest Bai Koroma of Sierra Leone, has been handed the unenviable task to convince Ivory Coast president, Laurent Gbagbo, to step down or face the inevitability of military intervention by ECOMOG, the West African peace keeping and enforcement force. President Koroma is among three African Heads of States tasked by ECOWAS to make one final push in negotiating a peaceful end to the political impasse that has threatened to destabilise the country after the recent presidential elections. An election that saw Alassane Ouattara overwhelmingly chosen as the new president of Ivory Coast.
