With memories of war, alum earns Hughes fellowship

Rice alumna Dania Daye came of age as a civil war ravaged her home in Lebanon. Motivated by that experience, she’s now fighting death and disease — and getting plenty of help to do it. Daye has earned a prestigious grant from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute that will allow her to pursue combined degrees in medicine and a doctorate in engineering at the University of Pennsylvania.

Clinton Global Initiative honors Rice's students — again

Rice students are once again making an impression on former President Bill Clinton. Twelve months after a Rice team was honored for developing a diagnostic lab-in-a-backpack, the Clinton Global Initiative recognized four students for developing a microfinance project that fights poverty abroad. The project aims to help the poor help themselves by starting businesses.
