Tapers Section By David Lemieux

Ahoy hoy! Welcome back to the Tapers' Section, where this week we have music spanning three decades (and three keyboard players).

Our first stop this week is 6/30/74 in Springfield, MA, where we have the Playing in the Band>Uncle John's Band>Playing in the Band jam, an early version of the sequence that would become quite common in the late 1980s.

Next up, from 3/10/81 at MSG in New York, we have from the first set Mississippi Half-Step Uptown Toodeloo > Franklin's Tower > Me And My Uncle ; It Must Have Been The Roses > Little Red Rooster; Don't Ease Me In. Please be warned that there are some major feedback squeals during Half-Step, but otherwise this is from a great-sounding cassette master. As good as this show is, the night before at MSG is perhaps a wee bit better.

Finally this week, a quartet of songs from 3/11/93 in Rosemont, IL:Althea, Masterpiece, So Many Roads>Music Never Stopped. We don't play too much 1993 here at the Tapers' Section, so it's fun when we find some good tunes, of which there were plenty on the Spring Tour of '93, and get to play them for you here.

Be sure to stop by next week where we'll have more great stuff from the vault. And feel free to write to the address below with questions or comments about the Tapers' Section.

The Great Wall

Hey man,
Although too young to attend the 6/30/74 Springfield show
my older brother came home from this show and went on for days
about what is now known as the Wall Of Sound.I recall his
urgent and compelling attempts to describe this"Thing",
getting bogged down in the details of the "Center Cluster"
Finally when the Steal Your Face LP arrived in the house,he pointed to the
photograph inside the gatefold cover.
Thanks for providing music and memories
Merci Beaucoup Monsieur Lemieux

The faster we go, the rounder we get...

Wow !

The strongest thing in my bloodstream is last night's Tylenol-PM, but that Springfield '74 Playin' jam still sent me into the stratosphere. Amazing stuff.

It is so cool to listen to these tunes and remember the happenings of events that are now legends. This is one of my favorite stopping places on the Internet every single week.

Ich werde auch weiterhin bei diesem Online Casino spielen, weil die Casino-Grafiken und die Sounds, die jedes einzelne Casino-Spiel begleiten, hervorragend sind.

Please release 4-7-72!

Why isn't this Soundboard out there yet? IMO, it has THE best '72 China/Rider. Hopefully we'll see this as an official realease soon. (Europe '72 Box set would be even better). Hint, Hint.

"That noise was art!"

Anybody know what that noise during the first song of the MSG 3/10/81 set was? I enjoyed Bobby's explanation, but he was not too specific.

re: 'that noise was art'

Yeah - my guess that noise was Jerry's doing. There's some semblance of the same god awful sound before one of his slide solos in Little Red Rooster. Damn hot! Great show and recording!
Thank's for the nugs DL...that 'Roses' hit the spot today...By the way, please play 11-18-72 Box of Rain...I'd love to hear it...thanks again...
