Girls Generation (Shoujo Jidai) has rewritten history in Japan as the first female group from another country to place on the top 3 singles ranking on the Oricon charts since 1980.

They released the Japanese version of “Gee” just 20 days ago which makes it all the more amazing and their last single, “Genie,” placed at #4 on the charts.

In addition, Oricon posted a message on their website which says, “Shoujo Jidai is the first ever Asian girl group to enter the top 3.”

“Gee” is also number 1 on iTunes Japan, Musico, recochocku and their MV is also number one on numerous charts.

Girls Generation has appeared on Japan’s top music broadcasts simultaneously starting from Asahi TV’s Music Station, NHK’s Music Japan, 25, and Fuji TV’s Hey! Hey! Hey! To put this into perspective, it took Girls Generation’s sunbaes, Tohoshinki (TVXQ) almost three years to appear on Music Station after debuting in Japan.

They will also begin promotions in Korea again with their title track, “Hoot” and will be coming back on this week’s Music Bank.
