Chinese Noodle Restaurant, Haymarket
Glistening handmade noodles. Light, crisp, panfried dumplings. Spicy grandma's beancurd glowing red with chillies. Plump steamed buns slumbering in bamboo baskets. Eager diners loiter expectantly outside like revellers waiting to gain entry into an exclusive party. Yet The Noodle Restaurant is anything but exclusive. Dining here is like being invited to a feast with your extended Asian family. You knock chopsticks with the person sitting next to you. The owner even volunteers to whip out his violin and play happy birthday. This is an unpretentious, unassuming little restaurant with honest, delicious, satisfying and authentic fare.
