NFL - Scoop Du Jour

Steve SmithNew York Giants wide receiver Steve Smith may be back next week after not playing for four games due to a partially torn pectoral muscle he suffered in practice, according to the New York Daily News.

In the eight games he's appeared in this season, he's earned a reputation as being one of the league's top third-down receivers. Overall, he's averaging 11 yards per reception. He's caught 47 passes for 517 yards and three touchdowns.

The Daily News reports that Smith has a "good sense" that he'll practice on Wednesday so he can be ready to go against the revitalized Minnesota Vikings, who won Sunday 38-14 against the Buffalo Bills behind the arm of Tarvaris Jackson(notes). (The Minneapolis Star-Tribune reports that coach Leslie Frazier is planning to start Brett Favre(notes) next week if Favre is healthy; he suffered a sprained shoulder during the team's first possession Sunday that some thought could be his final play in the NFL.)

From the looks of things on Sunday when the Giants pummeled the Washington Redskins, 31-7, the team doesn't need a ton of offensive help right now.
