Boston Urban Iditarod Race Details

The Boston Urban Iditarod takes the famous Alaskan Iditarod race and replaces the dogs with people, snow gear is replaced by wacky costumes and the sleds are shopping carts. This one-of-kind event incorporates a urban race,  costume contest, talent contest, pub crawl and food drive to end up with a great time for everyone.

Objective:

  • Have Fun!
  • Be the first team to complete the urban race between five check points (bars – but drinking is optional).
  • Create a team ‘theme’ for your team members and cart.  Look at the gallery for ideas.
  • Participate in challenges at each check point to win time bonuses.
  • Bring in as much food as possible for the food drive.

Race Format:
The race starts and finishes at the Asgard Irish Pub in Cambridge.  Teams find their fastest route between the Asgard, each of the required check points (bars) and back to the Asgard.  Arrive at each check point and get stamped in for your mandatory 20 minute rest and get your doggies some much needed refreshments.  To earn time bonuses participate in the challenges at each check point.  Challenges include: poll dancing, team cheerleadering  (think Bring it ON), food eating (Fear Factor), physical challenge (Amazing Race), and final a team talent contest at the finish line.

Food Drive:
Your team entry into The Boston Urban Iditarod is also a donation to the food drive.  At each check point race volunteers will give you up part of your canned food donation that you have to push in your cart back to the finish.  You’re encourage to bring more food or have your friends meet you at check points with food.  Additional food gets you a time bonus based on weight and the team that brings in the most food wins an award!

Rules:
Have fun, obey the law and respect other teams, the public, race volunteers and race organizers.  The complete rules are here.
