Project Harmony

In 2007 Strengthening Generations began working in collaboration with community groups on a project under its Family Harmony Working Party.

Project Harmony began as the Building Family Harmony Postcard Project and was devised to create an initial series of 12 postcards.

The postcard images and words were developed by a range of local community groups. The postcards were created with the aim of raising awareness about family harmony. The postcards reflect the diversity of families, the people who belong to them and the uniqueness of each person within the family setting. The cards are an excellent way of getting messages into the community about sustaining and building positive relationships. The postcards can be sent to family and friends. They can serve as conversation starters or as an opportunity for personal reflection. The cards could also be used to inform discussions about how communities can support families in a positive way.

There are 12 postcards in this series that have been created to relay a particular message from each of the groups involved. We would like to thank the following groups for their participation in the project:

  • Family Harmony Working Group
  • Delacombe Community House
  • Ballarat East Community Shed
  • MAKERS Group at St James
  • Aboriginal Coop (mums & bubs group)
  • PINARC Parent Support Group
  • ZAQUE Group
  • LINK UP Mums Group
  • YOUTHWORKS
  • Multicultural Ambassadors
  • Maternity Coalition

Project Harmony was officially launched on 15 May 2008 to coincide with International Family Day at the Central Highlands Regional Library. The launch promoted the postcards and celebrated the success of the project , acknowledging the communities involvement. Activities were conducted at the launch aimed at promoting the messages from the cards about maintaining positive family relationships.

Project Harmony is planned to continue with a new series aimed a promoting healthy family relationships with primary schools.
