Australia Day Awards 2011


Nominations for the 2011 Australia Day Awards opened today and will close on Thursday 11 November.

Do you know a community minded citizen, a special young person or a community activity or event that you would like to be officially recognised for positively contributing to the Ballarat community?

Ballarat City Council is encouraging the Ballarat community to nominate someone you know to be officially recognised as part of the 2011 Australia Day Awards. 

The 2011 Australia Day Award categories are:

Citizen of the Year
Entry is free and open to all citizens aged 25 years and older as of 26 January 2011

Young Citizen of the Year
Entry is free and open to all citizens aged under 25 years as of 26 January 2011

Community Activity of the Year
Entry is free and open to all events held between 22 November 2009 – 29 October 2010.

The 2011 Australia Day Awards will be presented at a ceremony on Australia Day eve Tuesday 25 January.

The achievements of past winners have included:

  • Community work through service organisations such as Rotary Club, Apex and Lions Clubs
  • Membership in Youth Council and other youth orientated groups
  • Organisation of community events for particular sectors of the Ballarat community
  • School Captains
  • Presidents of Community Groups
  • Public speaking awards
  • Activities to increase fitness levels and awareness of health related issues by the Ballarat community
  • Tourism related activities in Ballarat
  • Raising funds for worthwhile causes
  • Providing both formal and informal counselling services
  • Working with elderly members of the community
