How to get a Chinese Driver License with a valid foreign license
You can do this with either a Z or F visa. I am not sure about an X or L. With an L you can get a temp. DL for the duration of your stay.
Price
- 10rmb Health Examination (prices vary hospital to hospital)
- 50rmb Driver License Computer Exam
- 5rmb Driver License Fee
Everything inc. transportation (subway/taxi) cost me about 100rmb
A few companies can help you do this but its quite easy on your own. I have listed all the info you need to know and the links to the forms you need to get the Chinese DL.
If you dont speak Chinese it could get a little tricky but Im sure living in BJ you can find someone to help you out. All the forms are in Chinese and you must pick a Chinese name to put on the forms and the license.
FESCO(http://www.fesco.com.cn) and BeijingEasy(beijing-easy.com) can do this service for 800rmb
All it takes is:
- 1 trip to the hospital (-List of hospitals that can complete the health form http://www.bjjtgl.gov.cn/fwzn/yymc.htm)
- 2 trips to the Beijing DMV(Southeast 4th ring)
Trip to Hospital
Bring
- Health Form and One 1inch white background photo
Many hospitals have this form on hand All they do is the old eye test, colorblindness test, and check to see if u have full movement of your arms, legs and neck. It took me all about 5 mins.
1st Trip to DMV
Bring
- Driver License Application Form
- Driver License Health Form
- Passport with temp or perm residence permit
- Copy of your passport, visa, residence permit, and Driver License
- Valid foreign driver license and translation
- 4 1-inch white background pictures (2 on forms/2 will be put on new forms)
When you get to the building you need to go to the foreign services office/area. The entrance is on the left side of the building. After they check your things you will set up an exam appointment for about 2 weeks later and pay 50 rmb.
2nd Trip to DMV
Bring
- Exam Registration card and receipt of payment
Take the Exam which is on weekdays at 9am and 10am If you pass you will be able to pick up your license in one hour (5rmb)

Lots of buses go there you could also take a taxi from the SiHui Subway Station (10-20rmb)
