Statement – Big Country September 2008
Tuesday, 9 September 2008
After many months of uncertainty and discussion, it has been decided that the entity known as Big Country will for the foreseeable future, not be engaging in any activity. There are plans for CD releases by various record companies and although we, the surviving members of the band may have some small involvement in their promotion, there will be no live, recorded or video support. There will be no new Big Country material during this time.
The material that was recorded after the 25th anniversary tour in 2007 will be released but under the name of ‘BUTLER BRZEZICKI WATSON’. Discussions on how much this EP will be promoted are ongoing. Details of the release will follow shortly via Ian Grant.
Also to follow will be individual statements as to the situation and individual futures.
Tony, Mark and Bruce

Its a shame lads but politics in any form is very powerful when taken out of your hands. The material you did after 25 live will be heard by us because,us the fans, will find it if we really want it and we want it.I feeling it could to this after listening to the rumblings that have been flying around.I will say to you all thank you, thank you for the pleasure you have given me throughout the years. If only you knew how you helped me at certain points of my life and for one moment in my life i will be eternally grateful to you for being there. All the best in everything you all do in the future and hopefully we all get to see Bruce,Mark and Tony up on that stage once again.Cheers lads and keep on rocking.

I always find it sad when politics get in the way of great things, but then I guess I always feared I was a generation to late to see BC at all so I can't complain. Thanks for 25 Live and for all the great music, you'll still have my support as BBW! Good luck for the future whatever it may hold!

To echo everyone above a big thanks to you for the past 25 years. Ive said it before to other people and fans I marked my life each year with what album was released which concert I went to etc. Big Country have been with me for the past 25 years at all the most important moments of my life. Once again THANKS and I hope to see you again.
From: Mark Dron Date: Friday, 12 September 2008, at 12:23 pm
Echoing everyone else, thanks to you all for some of the best music of the last 25 years, I'll never forget seeing you all at Kentish Town, and I'll keep looking out for new material under any name you use !
From: Peter Grobben Date: Friday, 12 September 2008, at 3:18 pm
The music is made by the musicians and not by a band name. Of course Big Country is a famous trademark, but see the guys from the Doors (Riders on the storm), they play as they like. Go on lads you´re free to go now. Tip for a band name Fields of Fire. Cheers Peter

Forgetting the name issue for a moment, "individual statements" and "individual futures" doesn't sound too promising to me. I'm taking that to mean that once the BBW EP is released, that's probably pretty much 'it' and the three guys are going to go their own ways again. Or am I reading too much into the above Ian?
From: Martin Crudge Date: Saturday, 13 September 2008, at 11:08 pm
I'm a bit late on looking the site but can only add my thanks to the band for all the memories ; long ago and more recently. Having seen & heard the band again was a real privilege.
I just hope the various activities of Bruce,Mark,Tony and Ian are well publicised so they can be supported in whatever they do.
Again many thanks.

I've only just turned 20 so I've missed virtually everything first time round. I've only just been getting into BC the past couple of years so I'm gutted I've hopped on seemingly too late. Keep the dream going, I've been playing your albums day in day out, you're belting! Thanks a lot for changing my life - Beautiful People for sure! God bless Stuart.
From: Linda Maskell Date: Friday, 19 September 2008, at 10:52 pm
Thank you thank you for so many years of seeing and hearing you. Even though there will no longer be BC you are all still in my heart and will be until the day I die even then you are in my will I will go to heaven (hopefully) with your music playing me out.

This time I want to be absolutely honest...
By this time Bruce, Tony and Mark will not be able to use BC name anymore, that's for sure, but I'm going to support them in everything they do even if in a different way from BC.I mean, maybe I'm totally wrong but as regards BC I'm still too much into Stuart's work(music, lyrics etc)to think about them without him using BC name.I'm also sure their music will be fantastic and I surely buy it but with a different attitude from BC.I totally loved Stuart's work even if to be VERY honest maybe he WASN'T that wonderful, good and technical guitarist,on the contrary, but he wrote some music and lyrics that changed my life...
So I'll thank him about this FOREVER...
At the end of this I want as well wish all the best to Mark,Tony and Bruce and also hope BC fans understand me...
Stay Alive Eugenio

Thank you for the info. Good luck with the new stuff! I hope I can see you perform in the US one day, which is my life's dream, regardless of your name. Whatever, I can just pretend you're Big Country (to tell you the real truth, you guys are), though the lawyers would be on your cases as quickly as Mark can play the drums if you really were under that name.

I have just been listening to loads of Big Country stuff on you tube and I am totally falling in love with the band all over again. What a catalogue of totally amazing music Big Country have. The sheer amount of consistently good work is unbelievable. Thanks guys for making life a whole lot more pleasant for me at the moment. It's funny how you look back on your life when you come through a rough patch and hooking up with the music you guys have made has really helped me. Keep going, and if you come back to the live circuit, please come up to Inverness again. Lots of Love, JamieBxx
