Serie A Week 8 - 24/10/10 (11.30 UK)
Parma 0 - 0 Roma
Stadio Tardini

There's no end in sight for the Parma and Roma crises, as their 0-0 draw witnessed some dreadful finishing.

Both these sides were in crisis going into the lunchtime kick-off with Coaches nervously checking their backs. Fiorentina's win last night left the Ducali bottom of the table and without a victory since the opening round, while the Giallorossi were fresh from a 3-1 Champions League home defeat to Basel.

Mirko Vucinic returned, but Daniele De Rossi, Simone Perrotta, Jeremy Menez and Adriano missed out. There was a last-minute change when Rodrigo Taddei limped off during the warm-up, making way for Cicinho. Parma welcomed Sebastian Giovinco back to the bench over a month after his injury, but Daniele Galloppa, Alberto Paloschi and the suspended Massimo Paci were in the stands.

Roma's last Tardini loss was in May 2005, while this fixture hadn't ended in a stalemate since December 1998.

After three minutes Bogdan Lobont had to fingertip the rasping Marques snapshot over the crossbar.

Mirko Vucinic and Stefano Morrone had efforts off target, but Borriello went close when he spun round his marker just inside the box and the low finish shaved a coat of paint off the base of the near post.

Francesco Totti's powerful free kick whistled over the bar, but he was still looking for his first goal of the season.

Jose Fernando Marques somehow failed to score on 39 minutes. It was a well-worked move as Alessandro Lucarelli beat a soft Cicinho and the cross was whipped in by Dzemaili for the unmarked Spaniard, who slipped at the crucial moment to balloon off target from eight yards.

Borriello had a good chance with his volley parried by Antonio Mirante at the near post, but it wouldn't have counted anyway due to an extremely tight offside decision. Moments later Marco Cassetti failed to make the post of a poor clearance when his own first touch let him down.

Claudio Ranieri sprung a surprise with his half-time substitution, replacing captain Totti with ex-Parma player Fabio Simplicio. Gabriel Paletta was booked for cynically halting a dangerous counter-attack by body-checking Vucinic.

A rather unhappy-looking Vucinic also went off for Julio Baptista. Bojinov was flagged offside to ruin a promising opportunity in another tight call at the Tardini.

Roma went very close on the hour mark, as a corner found Philippe Mexes' spectacular scissor-kick volley that clipped Valiani to graze the base of the near post. It would've been one of the goals of the season.

Marques was again wasteful in front of goal, nodding over from six yards. At the other end Cassetti rolled a low ball across the area where Borriello came sliding in, but Paletta did just enough to stop him making clean contact.

Sebastian Giovinco made his comeback for Parma after a thigh injury kept him out for a month. Stefano Okaka came off the bench and his rather tame shot was easily smothered.

Marques rode a Cassetti tackle to go clear down the left, but an acrobatic John Arne Riise clearance prevented it reaching Hernan Crespo.

Roma had such a good chance to win it at the 85th when Stefano Okaka robbed Dzemaili on the edge of his own box to launch a Baptista counter, but all the Brazilian had to do was roll it back to Okaka and he completely scuffed the pass.
