EPSA: the context for student ministry

In a context facing the challenge of corruption, social injustice and political instability on top of some of the most extreme poverty and the march of the HIV/AIDS pandemic across the region, there is a need for rapid church growth to be matched by a corresponding impact of gospel.

...Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, plays a very important role in the affairs of the continent

There is a saying that when Nigeria sneezes, the whole of Africa catches a cold. Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, plays a very important role in the affairs of the continent.

NIFES, the IFES movement in Nigeria, also has a strategic ministry both within and beyond the country's borders. One of the largest IFES movements in the world, NIFES not only disciples tens of thousands of young believers, but also instills a missionary vision in its members.

Every three years over 6,000 students and graduates gather at Land of Promise, the NIFES conference grounds, to learn and grow in their understanding of what it means to be a missional Christian.

The conference is taking place this year from 30 November to 5 December. Through worship, interactive teaching, seminars, Bible studies, prayer and small groups, participants will be challenged to grow in their understanding of a biblical perspective on missions.

The purpose of this event is to encourage mature reflection on evangelism, a holistic Christian response to the needs of the world, and the generation of practical tools whereby students and graduates become agents of social transformation.

Please pray for the speakers, including Daniel Bourdanné, IFES General Secretary, for wisdom, strength and good health.

Pray too for the students, that God will awaken in them the desire to be missionaries in their places of influence, whether that be in full-time Christian ministry, or as missionaries in the home and the workplace. Pray for safety and health of all participants. The NIFES conference grounds have minimal facilities, and most of the students will be sleeping in the open-air and meeting in tents for the week.

a new approach to student ministry
