The S.C. Highway Patrol is investigating two fatal weekend car accidents in Lexington County in which each driver was not wearing a seat belt.

Jeb Stuart Attaway, 26, of Leesville was killed shortly after 11 p.m. Sunday on Lewie Road in Gilbert while driving a 2005 Z-71 Chevrolet pickup truck, Lexington County Coroner Harry Harman reported.

Attaway was traveling north on Lewie Road when he drove off the left side of the road while rounding a curve, said Sgt. Kelley Hughes of the S.C. Highway Patrol. His truck struck several trees, rolled over and crossed to the other side of the road, Hughes said. He was not ejected from the truck.

Investigators are not sure what time or day the second accident occurred on Priceville Road in Gilbert, Hughes said.

Samuel Cole Berkheimer, 22, of Gilbert was killed in the single-car accident, Harman said.

His wrecked 2002 Pontiac Firebird was discovered at 2:20 a.m., Hughes said. He had driven off the left side of the road and flipped, Hughes said. The road is straight on that portion of Priceville Road. Berkheimer also was not ejected from his car.
